Khadeen Carrington (Seton Hall verbal)

I love the following quote from the article---

“We went to St. John’s a couple weeks ago,” she said. “That, too, is very attractive. It was very nice. We sat down on a one-on-one and I thought he was somewhat a very honest person.”

It's a recurring theme from many recruits and their parents when speaking about Coach Lavin. I firmly believe that this approach will pay dividends in the future.

You love that quote? I find it confusing to say the least. "Somewhat a very honest person". Either you are or arent honest. Somewhat is a really poor word choice.

Moose, I believe she means "a very honest person", many people in the inner city speak in this context. If she would of said he is somewhat honest, then it would be a negative comment.

To me the comment implies that other coaches are not honest. I think you have to forgive her grammer, unfortunately she is probably not a lawyer like many others in this forum.

I wasn't expecting perfect grammar and on the Jungle I even said it was bad word choice all around from her to Zags as well choosing that quote. Thanks for shedding some light on you hearing similar wording before. That makes me feel better about the quote.

Maybe Lavin commented that her cooking was fantastic and her opinion was that everything else he said was honest. SMILEY FACE

and that he too was a man of God
and furthermore was taking the entire team to her homeland (Trinadad?) for an exhibition etc.
whatever works, correct? (how do I put a smiley face here?)

Coach Lavin will handle this well, honestly and will continue to get his/our share of top players.

all the best

Carrington Continues Hot Flash

Ranked No. 94 in the Rivals150, the 2014 6-foot-3 shooting guard showed off his ability to attack the rim in bunches. This not only led to an MVP performance, but the recording of his 1,000th career point. The Bishop Loughlin (NY) product credits his improved jumper and improved ability at seeing the floor to his improved success on the court.

After picking up an offer from Florida State last week, the four-star prospect hopes to get on the Seminoles campus in near time. UConn, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Rutgers, St. John's and others have also offered the talented guard, who says that the Huskies, Mountaineers, Bearcats and Seminoles are standing out the most to him because of how frequently they stay in contact. With Kevin Ollie in attendance Saturday, it gave him a perspective of what Carrington could do against some real talent and a tough atmosphere. Carrington came up big in front of the coach who he is starting to grasp onto.

This makes 2 recruits (Whitehead) basically inferring that St John's is not recruiting him as hard as other schools. Do we not really want these guys or are we getting out worked as hard as that might be for some of you to accept.

“@NYPost_Brazille: Per @CNG_Staszewski St. John's watching Bishop Loughlin's Khadeen Carrington again today. #stjbb”

@CNG_Staszewski: Coaches from St. John's and Rutgers already at Loughlin. Scarlet Knights head man Mike Rice being one of them. #CHSAA

Looks like this will be a long recruiting battle for Carrington between Lavin and Kevin Ollie. I'm completely ignoring Rice because Rutgers doesn't stand a chance against those 2.

I'm glad we're really showing a local recruit some early love.

@CNG_Staszewski: St. John's head coach Steve Lavin just arrived at Bishop Loughlin. #chsaa

@NYPost_Brazille: This is the fourth time of late St. John's has been to a game for Khadeen Carrington. Heard UConn coach Kevin Ollie may show up as well.

Arms race for Carrington.

I'd argue its not even early in the process.

Rice might have proven more on the recruiting trail than Ollie thus far.

I was just paralleling this to how the staff handled McCullough's recruitment.

Khadeen Carrington will never have a practice quite like last Tuesday.
After finishing up the workout with his Bishop Loughlin teammates, Kobe Bryant walked through the Fort Greene school’s doors and hung out with the team.
“It was great to meet one of the players you look up to,” Carrington said. “I consider him the greatest after Jordan.”
After getting over the shock of having the Lakers superstar in his team’s gym, Carrington, one of the nation’s top juniors, used the meeting — set up by Loughlin coach Ed Gonzalez through Nike, which sponsors the Brooklyn school — to pick up pointers.
Carrington asked Bryant how he prepares for big games and handles the pressure of taking the last shot. The 6-foot-3 standout said the biggest thing he took from Bryant was how to be a leader. Bryant stressed not to let one bad play linger, to always communicate with teammates and not show frustration, even in difficult times.
“That definitely motivated me,” he said. “I talked to him and I see how his demeanor is, he’s very calm. I learned a couple of things.”
The Trinidad-born Carrington didn’t ask Bryant any questions about recruiting — the Lakers star didn’t attend college, after all.
Carrington has a plethora of schools coming at him, but he is focused on St. John’s, Cincinnati, Florida State and UConn at the moment. The lanky southpaw, considered by many to be the city’s No. 2 junior behind Lincoln star Isaiah Whitehead, is having a big season for Bishop Loughlin, a title contender in New York City’s famed Catholic league.
“The upside to this young man is amazing,” Gonzalez said. “When the ball’s in his hands, he’s going to make something happen. He's a playmaker."
Carrington talks frequently with St. John’s coach Steve Lavin and UConn head man Kevin Ollie and plans to take visits after the season. He attended UConn's "First Night" event and was in attendance Wednesday at the Garden when St. John's knocked off the Huskies.
“I’m open to going away, part of me is saying I want to stay home so family can watch me play,” he said. “Wherever is the best situation for me. I want to go somewhere where I can show my talent, they’re going to develop me as a player and as a person."

I would be surprised if Rice was still at RU after the conclusion of this season.
