Keita Status
If he leaves after he season doesn’t he lose a year of eligibility? Not saying he won’t, just verifying the rules.
He could play d-2 immediately. That may be the best level for him.

He can do alot tonight by just getting in the way of DePaul's rebounders.

Kieta is not the answer for us tonite he has be unable to stop offensive centers We need him to box out and grab rebounds The game is in the hands of Pons Heron and Clark each has to be on we need20 pts from P ,20 pts from H and 18 from Clark and the rest from the bench key is D and holding them under 70
Dumb question, what was wrong with Keita? Was he out with an injury or dealing with non-basketball issues?

Thanks
If you hadn't asked, I would have? I just figured his non-appearance along with Williams last Saturday were DNP Coach's decision.

I find this comment very interesting, and shocked no one else has picked up on it. Unless I'm reading too much into it.

I thought so too. Not something we'd really heard. He always came across like a solid teammate.

I think you guys are reading way too much into Paultz’ comments. The obvious inference is that Keita isn’t into academics and the other rigors and responsibilities of college life.

What do you mean "you guys"? Yes, I get the inference. My issue was does that mean he will be departing after the school year?

Seems that way

I hope that as you wake up this morning you put some sugar on the words Keita made you eat.

He was a factor in the second half, and as in the seton hall game gives hope that he can very much be a serviceable part of rotation who can contribute significantly on an undersized team

Beat, the Keita "hate" is overblown. The guy may be a PITA behind the scenes, and he is definitely not the player we had holed (maybe fueled by injury) but on this team, if he can play as he did last night, we is definitely a PLUS and added needed depth.

You are referring to 2 of 20 games.
To be fair- I don't think coming on board the morning after 1 of those 2 games is grounds to tell people to put sugar on their words IMHO.

I wasn't asserting he is suddenly a superstar. Merely that he is an important serviceable part of a tourney team, which I asserted previously. The commentary has been that he is incapable of playing at this level, and discounted his knee surgery and injury. He is certainly better than a D2 player.

I pulled out of the thread because I wasn't going to try and fix the quoting issues in your response.

2 of 20 games at that level to me says he isn't capable of playing high D1 basketball.
D2 is an extreme yes.
His knee injury is not effecting his ability to hit a layup from point blank range.
I hope he has a stretch of games upcoming like his Seton Hall game which was a joy to watch

I think it is clear that at this point in their careers, Keita is a much more useful piece that Roberts. Yes Roberts is bouncier and has better hands, but Keita is much stronger down low and disrupts more shots. I think against bigger teams, both will be useful to bang down low and we will need their 5 fouls. Keita looks to have decent form on his mid-range shot, but he just needs to be more confident with the ball. I don't want him taking those shots at this point unless he has to, but i think he will be important for us.

Largely agree Moose, so no argument here. His season has been a disappointment. To be fair to him, a sore knee, pre and post surgery can make even simple things difficult, such as pushing off to elevate for a layup.

I had pretty simple knee surgery and some things were pretty impossible for me to do even though I was going full tilt in rehab. Sports usually requires your legs to be in great shape. In baseball and softball I was a pretty class left handed pull hitter, but a few with a badly sprained ankle that buckled when I put weight on it, I flied out weakly to left, which I had never done unintentionally in my life (hit to left field).

Without knowing, I'd say post surgery he may just now be coming around. I hope so, because we'd both agree that a productive Keita is much better than anything else we have coming off the bench in terms of essential to winning.

He is and can be a serviceable part of the puzzle.

The good thing next year is he will be in a rotation (hopefully) of 4-5 big men, so only 15-20 mins will be expected of him.

He’s horrible. The bar is so low for him all he has to do is not lose us the game and he gets praised. He almost lost an uncontested rebound off a free throw with all 9 players in full retreat. It’s sad that him not being completely awful nearly transforms this team.

Look, Keita is not very good. He's big and strong and he tries hard on D, but he has poor hands, lousy touch, and he doesn't box out. Most of us were expecting more from him - and most of us (like me) had never seen him play before. So what were we basing these expectations on? One year at South Carolina when he barely played? And how many people on this board watch or care about South Carolina? I know I don't. Our expectations were not in line with reality - and that's not Keita's fault.

So let's stop ripping the guy, and understand him for what he is - a serviceable backup for very limited minutes. Hopefully next year that will be his role.

I'm sure he had other suitors when he transferred, and he chose St. John's. So he's one of our guys, and let's root for him.
