But then again, that's what happens when you don't go all out trying to get bigs here. You play with fire having 1 real big man. You can't tell me we wouldn't be able to lure mid major or D2 bigs to come with some serious effort. Feelers are put out all the time even to players who are currently on teams. So don't want to hear "there weren't many available on the transfer list".
None of our best lineups include Keita. Let's not get carried away. It'd be nice to have him to give 15-20 minutes. That's it.
All I can tell you that in a small group, both St. Jean and Mullin separately called Keita, "a beast", implying off the boards, on defense, with an ability to post. I would imagine that given that description of watching and working with him over a prolonged period of time, once he gets untracked there are reasonably high hopes for what he will contribute ultimately. While their expectation is high, I think they also project that he also needs to develop.
Find me a head or assistant coach who wont prop up their own guys? A guy they went out and spent time and resources recruiting. I don't think Chris would say that any of the guys he brings in stink.
In my opinion, they should shut him down as a precaution for the foreseeable future.
There's a difference between coach speak, and what someone says to you in a small or private conversation. This was the latter. I've found both to be pretty direct in being critical of what certain guys have to improve on to be successful, but wouldn't necessarily repeat them here.
My summary conclusion would be that based on their comments I wouldn't be surprised with 7 or 8 rebounds per game if he gets the minutes, and less if he is playing less. Scoring is not a necessity on this squad, so even if score 5 or 6 ppg that would be a plus. Providing som Interior defense and toughness may be critical to the team's success, as will staying out of perpetual foul trouble - Clark is the only credible big guy who can play the 5.
