So Heron, LJ, Williams, and Earlington are the only ones left?

Just about, along with the sit out transfers.

Why cant we ever have nice things?

Optimism starts building for a new coach, and then all the horses leave the barn. Hopefully the new coach can keep some of these guys on campus and bring one or two with him.

Obviously the players were upset yesterday not hearing from any SJ folks about Rothstein tweet on Chris stepping down. Hopefully someone can calm things down with remaining players as soon as possible. Imo this situation should have been handled much better.

As I speculated once Matt jumped ship, the dominoes will continue to fall. First the entire staff, then the committed recruits and now the existing players. A total wipeout and rebuilding is coming. Not much different from 4 years ago. We haven't moved the dial forward one iota.
Possibly a future Harvard case study in the hiring and management of a college basketball program.

According to Zach B, LJ and Greg will wait things out, so I would like our chances on keeping those two.

Sounds like a rebuild for Rick, if we want a quick fix. Sure, we can hire Bobby, but we'll suck for atleast the first 3 years. It's all up to what the bosses at sju want though.

Gives the new coach at least 6 schollies to work with.[/quote]

I’m ok with grabbing players under the next coach. We had no Pg and weren’t going to be very good anyway. If we land a guy like Hurley I’m sure he could grab a few good players. Let’s wait and see. We weren’t going to have much roster here without Matt anyway.

Agree. It's not all or nothing, and for all of the praise being sent Cragg's way - deservedly - this element was very poorly executed. Understand it may have happened "outside of Cragg's control", but when you are leading a process like this as the AD you need to make it within your control. Cannot, under any circumstances, have the players not hear definitive communication from the school first. After days - literally days - of rumors which they obviously became aware of, some update should have been provided. They don't deserve to get caught in the crosshairs of a coaching change they didn't ask for any more than they already will be. The program is about the players and it doesn't appear this was handled properly as to them.

Agree Paultz. Hopefully, Cragg is about to reveal his hand to stabilize the ship.

Why does it always seem so dramatic at SJU? Dozens of schools change coaches every year, and somehow ours always seems to have more flair than most. Potentially less excusable for SJU given all the practice it has doing exactly this :)

Heron, LJ, Wright, Steere, Williams, Earlington, Caraher, Manuel (?) would provide a reasonable foundation with which to rebuild a good team, with other timely additions, Grad transfers and recruits that a Hurley-type new coach should be able to attract.
I view this as ‘dawn’, not midnight.
In Cragg we trust.

Cragg losing points by the minute. I find it hard to believe that he doesn’t have a replacement eight days after he met with Mullin. Alabama had Oates seemingly overnight.
