Keeping Up With Old Friends Thread

Ok well if you're going to compare it that way, look at his sophomore season. His stats were better that year than they are this year.

If the OP said that there would be no need for a correction on some counts (FG%, PPG, Steals and TO/minute), though his 3pg and FT% numbers and his R and A's per minute are better this year than that year. :ROFLMAO:

Admittedly off topic but Memphis just took down previously undefeated Clemson 79-77 and Jones went for 22 points and 6 rebounds. Kid is having an excellent year to date.

C’mon, there is a thread dedicated to those guys, please do not pollute this one too.

I wrote this in response to a post in the game thread. My response now makes no sense and I don’t understand why it was moved.

I know you don't like Jones but the fact is he is kicking butt for a very good team.
I never said he isn’t. I’m only saying I couldn’t give a rats ass since I’m not a Memphis fan. Theres a thread for this guy. Someone must agree with me since my post got moved.

Ten Players from our 2022-2023 Roster are playing D1 Ball this year. Here are their 2023-2024 Stats:

1) David Jones Memphis 20.1 PPG 6.6 RPG
2) Joel Soriano St. John's 17.8 PPG 10.6 RPG
3) Kolby King Tulane 14.9 PPG 3.9 RPG 1.7 APG
4) A.J. Storr Wisconsin 13.7 PPG 2.9 RPG
5) Posh Alexander Butler 10.9 PPG 4.2 RPG 5.3 APG 1.9 SPG
6) Rafael Pinzon Bryant 10.7 PPG 2.7 RPG
7) O'Mar Stanley Boise State 9.3 PPG 4.2 RPG
8) Dylan Addae-Wusu Seton Hall 6.9 PPG 4.5 RPG 2.1 APG
9) Drissa Traore St. John's 2.6 PPG 1.6 RPG
10) Mohamed Keita Tulsa 1.9 PPG 2.7 RPG

Results from last year's team aside, it seems clear that some of the talent from last year's roster has been able to move on and play pretty well this year (at least statistically speaking). Some felt that Mike Anderson's players were inferior talent wise but it seems that they have been able to do just fine thus far, for the most part, in other places.

Interestingly enough the best of the bunch statistically and in just about everyway, IMHO, is Joel Soriano and he is also a very clear talent stick out on the 2023-2024 SJU roster.

Of all the players who left, the ones who I really would have liked to stay were:
1. Storr
2. Posh
3. Jones

I know many of you will be shocked that I didn't mention Pinzon, but that's because I was sure he was going straight to the league.
I thought all 3 of the aforementioned players would have improved considerably under Rick, and all could have played big roles on this team. But it's water under the bridge at this point.

Nothing to do with who should have stayed or left, but I always thought Jones oozed talent and glad to see him realizing it this year.

I would also add King to this list. I feel he would have been great off the bench in Pitino’s system.

I was thinking of kids who, had they stayed, would have made a big impact on this team as starters. I agree King could have developed in to a valuable bench player, but IMO so would all the others who left have done so under Rick.

Brandon Gardner aka Madison Square “Gonner” has played 4 total minutes at USC, injured?Red shirt?

Just my take: Anderson lost control of this team, and it wasn't only Curbelo. Anderson did little to correct it, but Jesus these guys are in college and no one as far as i see stood up to their teammates and said "Cut the crap!!" The Spanish speaking players would speak spanish to each other on the court, knowing other teammates and not a single coach spoke spanish. If there was one true leader on the team they'd have thrown Curbelo out of the gym themselves. Guys showed up late to practice and many indulged in extracurriculars that the ncaa bans.

Honestlybfeel we had talent, but don't blame Rick for only being interested in a few.

On that matter Storr was horrible on defense imo and wanted a bundle and got it from Wisconsin.

Good luck to them all but there is a reason they are all gone, actually a bunch of reasons and much of it well deserved. Lack of talent wasn't one of them.

Add one cancer to an organization and it can spread. Trust me I know from experience.

His CTK teammate, Brandon Williams was ranked #1 in NYS, with Gardner ranked #2. Williams also hasn't seen much court thus far.

Immediately before NIL, players had to be coaxed to play 3 years of college bball. Champagnie reluctantly came back for junior year, Posh was considering leaving after freshman year, csme back for soph, but was thought to be gone for junior year. NIL money has kept him around for senior year. In all ncaa sports, 5th year plsyers are keeping freshman on the bench.

Gardner's mom, Tameka Gordon, shopped him after Anderson left. He's getting a bundle at USC, and may be in the portal next year. I think USC has 4 highly ranked frosh. With no court time, what would his soph NIL look like? Both Gardner and his mom have been quiet lately on social media. Can't be easy for them.

Two examples of why Rick favors older proven talents. Wilcher, Dunlap, even Zuby have comparatively looked raw, but also consider their teammates are 23 year old men.

Strange times
