Keeping Up With Old Friends Thread

I know this will be unpopular, but I much prefer this version of NBA offense to the one-pass isolation play that dominated the 90s.

The Knicks are the prime example of this with guys who pass the ball incredibly well at every position.

Yeah, there are way too many threes. But I see a guys like Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart and OG and the mid-range game is alive and well.

The league defense on the other hand.....

To me the biggest issue isn’t the amount of threes, it’s just that the value of an nba possession is so little. No one cares (of course they care) about fighting for a stop, when you can just make it up quick on the other end. No one worries about giving up a decent look for a good look, because well hell IVE GOT A DECENT LOOK NOW!!

Would probably be too drastic of a change in the nba, but I really do like the elimination ending used in The Tournament. It stresses effort and smart play. Yes there is no clock to run or time and situations to play to (things I used to love but now just give me anxiety), but as long as you’re willing to fight for stops, you are never out of the game.

Agreed. Every possession feels like life and death in college. Possessions feel like nothing in the NBA.

40 minute games in the NBA would help with so many of their problems. Every possession would feel important. Guys wouldn’t have to log as many minutes each night leading to less of the load management nonsense. Better players playing an higher percentage of the game elevates the level of play.

The only downside would be a drop in the video game numbers some guys are putting up nightly but it’s obvious people don’t care about Luka or Jokic going for a 40 point triple double anymore
