“@AdamZagoria: #stjbb also involved with Josiah Turner, Darrick Wood, Philip Nolan & Michael Chandler. Several could visit next week, sources told @SNYtv”

Apparently we are involved, so starting a thread.

Surprises me too since we have 3.5 years of Branch left. Would be a very talented backcourt.

This is a top talent. You have to hope his head is at a right place and take gambles sometimes. Imagine him DLo and Branch as our guards. Thats just sick and unfair for the opposition.

2.5 not 3.5

Are you sure about that, Moose?
I thought he transferred at the end of the first semester of his freshman year at A&M
That would give him 3.5 years of eligibility at St John's

Not saying he would stay for a fifth year but if he did would how little he played last year make him eligible for another year of play if he was working on a masters? Not really super important knowledge at the moment - just curious

Branch only has 2 1/2 years of eligibility. He'll be a sophomore, which generally would give him 3 years. Since he won't suit up until some point in December, then he'll only have 2 1/2 years.

That seems silly. Leave at the end of your freshmen year you get 3 years, leave at midseason of freshmen year and get 2.5? I'll never understand the NCAA

It all comes back to the rule that makes you sit out a year if you want to transfer. Which I think should be thrown out the window.

You get 4 years of eligibility. Whether you play 20 games or 6. There's no half years in terms of that.
The half years only come in to play when determining what date he cant start. And that rule is he has to be in his new school for 2 semesters before he can play in a game.

So it creates this weird dilemma for unhappy freshmen; who can transfer after their first fall - and be able to play the next fall (aka at the beginning of the next season), but they lose half a season of playing time by choosing not to play in the spring.

Or, they can finish their freshmen year out - then transfer-, and still have 3 "full" years left. But they can't step on a court again till fall 2013.

Stupid rule. Let kids transfer whenever they want. If they were truly student athletes this wouldn't be an issue, because undergrads transfer whenever the heck they want.

Its seasons vs. years. He can still play next season whereas if he hung out the year it would be a full year and full missed year. Pick your poison

FWIW for anyone who's a fan of college basketball that's ridiculous. Then again I'm old enough to cheer for the schools over the players.

Back to Josiah Turner. He finished his senior year of high school at QEA feeding Sir Dominic Pointer the ball.... so there may be a reason for a mutual interest.

I know the stories are that he's trouble. But he's the 3nd top rated HS guard to bolt on Sean Miller in 2 years (Momo left after last season, as did Jordan Brand All America frosh Daniel Bejarano), and there was much discussion that if Turner didn't leave, soph PG Jordin Mayes WOULD have (and may still) - so maybe there's more to it than problems with the KIDs.....
