He could be the second Coming of Leroy Ellis. Same built and his presence around the basket is very similar

The mention of comparing Roberts to LeRoy Ellis brought back memories of the big man who improved the most. It was so long ago that I didn't post but LeRoy went from a decent center in his sophomore year ( his first varsity year ) to a good center in his junior year to a third team All American as a senior averaging 23 points and 16 rebounds getting 30 rebounds in one game, a SJU record, He was drafted by the Lakers in the first round and played 14 seasons in the NBA .
LeRoy was an extremely hard worker who made the effort to improve and Roberts should talk to Looie about LeRoy.

It's an evolution but I don't see Roberts ever being a true NBA big man but I wonder if Roberts could not have a future as a Dennis Rodman type of player. Not talking behavior (or FT shooting) but the unique level athlete that Rodman was.

I'm the worst at comparisons but for some reason I was thinking AC Green. i'll be happy with Rodman or AC :)

While we're at wishful thinking....Buck Williams. Heck, I'd take Kurt Rambis.

Just get the kid some goggles like either. Got to be good for an extra rebound or two.

And damn, another great player the university has failed to give well-deserved props to ... especially while he was alive. Unforgivable.

Hope for his sake he doesn't have AC's sex life while he was a player.

Think we need to tone down these NBA comparisons. No doubt Josh has improved beyond our expectations, but lets see him get through BE opponents once before anointing him the the next great one.

Feel like he’s more in the Mitchell’s Robinson category. He’s a very interesting and useful player but he needs a jumper or post move to really be an offensive threat. He needs others/opportunities to create his offense which will be limiting at times. Regardless very excited about his development. Let’s see how he does v some more physical, more experienced bigs.

Glad we'll have Steere back for Big East play. Especially against strong body like Tyrique Jones at X. He may eat Roberts lunch for a whole game.

Not going to compare Josh to former solid players yet, since BE games will better clarify his upside. To me the most important development is that he is clearly a BE level player. Great to see him developing & he’s the type of four year player we need to get SJU on right trajectory along with Julian.

Different type of player.....Mitchell Robinson is 7'0", 240 lbs.

Roberts is an undersized forward with high energy and a great nose for the ball. I am enjoying him right now and think he could be a really good piece over the next two and a half years.

I’d like to see him become a Hakim Warrick type. Similar build. Warrick didn’t sit on the perimeter. Can make shots, but punishes around the rim. Roberts is headed that direction. He still needs more muscle and to work on his ability to creat his own offense, I agree. That said he’s been extremely efficient on offense when he does go to the hole. He’s not trying to do too much. Still a ton to grow as a player and now for next 3 seasons this is his team and he will get the minutes to be able to show what he can do. Hopefully he keeps growing as a player.

For a college version he essentially plays the same role. Dump offs, pick and rolls, offensive rebounds on one end. Block shots and able to defend in space on the other. More guile than strength. They pretty much occupy the same space.

The nice thing is he's not trying to do too much and playing within himself. With practice and as he gets more comfortable on the offensive end he'll develop more moves around the basket and expand his game.

Give him time, he could round into a real good one.

Leroy Elllis was 6-11 and a bona fide NBA center, so whatever similarities they might have take a backseat to that.

How about we just enjoy this kid’s progression without comparing him to a guy WHO WAS HALF A FOOT TALLER and PLAYED IN THE LEAGUE FOR 15 YEARS.
