Jon Severe, SG

Fordham, really? For NYS's top bb senior? Not sure what that says. Don't get me wrong, FU is a great university, just not a bb power.

He goes there and he can play and not get recruited over like he would at a school like Pitt or WVU. Or go to Wake where the coach will get fired this year. Smart move if its true.

Appears a safe pi . but feel he should have picked a school .in a power conference with .a named coach and staff Think it . would bode him better for hopes of next .level However it can be accomplished from any program

Going to a big program limits his minutes, which doesn't do much for next-level hopes. And I hope you mean Europe when you say next level, because short shooting guards get no love from NBA scouts. He'll have a four-year green light under Pecora, and better chance to work on combo skills there than at Pitt or W.Va.

I think it's unfortunate that the second-highest level of college basketball is Fordham, though. Too bad Stony Brook wasn't in the A-10.
Fordham is barely in the top 10 in NY/NJ...don't see why he would go there

The A-10 is the most competitive non-BCS conference with a hometown school, so Fordham fits the bill.

Better than the New Big East????????????????????????????????????/

I knew someone would say this. The new BIg East hasn't started play yet, and I consider it a top basketball conference anyway. St. John's didn't want him. Manhattan, Iona, and Stony Brook are too low for him. His choice gives him a conference that gets more than one bid, and allows him to stay home. It's just too bad that it had to be Fordham.

Severe will be making his decision on Wednesday, April 24th, per Zags.

Severe deciding between Pitt, WVU, Pitt, and Wake Forest per the article. Interesting to see in the article that it doesn't list Rutgers as a consideration, he recently put them on his list I heard after the hiring of Eddie Jordan.

http://zagsblog.com/articles/jon-severe-to-announce-wednesday/

Actually, Rutgers made a huge 11th hour push for him
Right after the news conference to announce Jordan's hire, he ran to NYC for an in-home visit with Severe
Too little, too late
Severe announced for Fordham the next day, although he did say he was very impressed wirth Jordan's presentation

I like the kid, and what he's done so far is very impressive ... but let's not play pick-and-choose with game stats.

19-49 is pretty good.

Where did I pick and chose?

I said he's still shooting 38% from 3 in spite of an 0-10 outing. That is amazing.

No offense intended, but you did write "Take out the 0-10 game and he's 19-39 from 3-point range." To me, that's picking and chosing. As for Severe, as noted earlier, what he's done to date is very impressive (even with the 0-for-10 included). Be interesting to see how he develops over the course of the season.

Maybe we should of gone all in for this kid instead of Rysheed?

We have to try to recruit highly ranked players like Rysheed. However, I like the idea of having some local talent.

I can't check on this kid's stats again. Heart-breaking...really wanted him here. Maybe he transfers after a year, as he can clearly play with the big boys.

Highly doubt he transfers. He's playing over 35 MPG and has the ultimate green light. Might even have enough firepower to steal the conference come March. Plus, he has a lot of local players looking at what he's doing and showing interest to Fordham that they probably never would before.

We needed outside shooting but never recruited the kid.

I think the dual scholarships we had given out have come back to bite us (Hooper-Jakarr, Bourgault-Sanchez, Felix-Gift). Those 3, while potential 4 year players, handcuffed us.

We could've went after Rysheed AND Severe if we had the room to do so.

Jon wanted playing time. We could not guarantee. The Felix-Obekpa deal was a good one. Marco was unrelated to Primo. Just a bad recruit.

The felix move was great IMO. Hell get major minutes as an upperclassmen and a really good player for us. He makes things happen.

I'm starting to think we could really use him this season. I love the redshirt of him and as a junior and senior he will be very valuable. I think, at worst, he's Paris Horne by his junior year, and who wouldn't take that? This is how you build programs. Bill Self is the king of the mid-career redshirt and it always seems to pay dividends for him.

I would be thrilled if he morphed in to Paris by his Junior year. From an athleticism standpoint they are comparable, maybe slight edge to Paris. From a skill standpoint(Paris could do a little bit of everything pretty well), Felix has a ways to go IMO.

I actually think Felix is more athletic than Paris. Paris developed a consistent jumper over four years, to go along with his ability to drive. I loved that team. Thanks Norm!
