Jon Rothstein: Mullin Likely To Take SJU Job

Hope it's true. Perhaps Danny Hurley accepted the extension with URI because he knew the SJU was Mullin's and wanted to use the leverage against URI before Mullin was announced. Or perhaps I'm just way, way overthinking this.

As I said yesterday Danny did that with Rutgers also. (Talk about integrity haha)

Mullin was choice 1 always.

Good call & yes on Mullin choice!

As if none of your fellow posters ever over-thinks.

P.S. A case of my own over-thinking was branding Mullin's potential hiring as unrealistic. If the rumor of his hiring proves to be true, I'll be happy (although he wasn't my #1 choice; see Mark Vaccaro's piece in today's Post), but will have to admit I was dead wrong.

This is a very exciting time for us, if true.

Chris IS a winner and a guy we all admire and love.

Fasten your seatbelts!

I hope I'm terribly wrong, but I see this as a gimmicky hire based on nostalgia and wanting to make a big splash. Not a diligent consideration of all of the possibilities.

Respect Chris Mullin as a person and he's one of the best ever at St. John's, but who knows whether this will work. We needed a sure bet. Just because Fred Hoiberg did it in Iowa doesn't mean it can be done in New York. Again, I hope I'm wrong.

Unfortunately I'm getting the same feeling. Then again, no perfect candidate existed
