Johnny Jungle

Tom in Simsbury is now Tom in Salem on Twitter. Not sure what the falling out with Maven was about.

Tom  in Simsbury had changed his handle to Tom in Salem before he left here.  I seem to recall him actually commenting on a thread here several months back.

There are some former contributors who are still here who just don't post often but still check the Board.  Of course we've lost a few good ones also who have passed on.

I do admit to missing some of those RJRJR and Bobre45 discussions.

Nothing will top the Old Red blow up on BEB.

Southern Johnny anyone?

still haven’t heard from MJDinkins this season.

I was actually just thinking about MJDinkins and how I hadn't seen him post this year

This thread should be renamed “Old Guys Talking About Old Guys.”

I'm concerned about Jack In Virginia, who reported having surgery last year. He played baseball for SJU in the 50s or early 60s I believe.

We met Dinkins in Charlotte at the bar after the game.  He had brought his 12 or 13 year old son with him.  I chatted on the phone with him a few times, but I think he got mad at me for making fun of his theories that Jack Williams was RealFan or someone much older than a teenager.  He had these elaborate theories on why he knew he was right, which infuriated Jack.

I'm hoping someday Jack and Dinkins can meet on a Dr. Phil or even better, Maury Povich episode.

i'm so old school I remember when Maven and Tom in Simsbury were bffs.

I never met Tom but we were pretty friendly on here, and in PMs.   About 8 years ago I was doing a lot of work in Massachusetts not far from where he lived, and I offered to meet him but we never arranged it.

His war with Maven got incredibly nasty and personal in a scary way.   I was friendly with a good friend of Tom's on here, and it went far beyond a war of words.

I thought Tom was a  pretty good poster and a good guy.

It was a pretty crazy period when Maven and his son teamed up at times here.  I forget his son's screen name, but in PMs was a pretty nice guy.

I'm so old school I remember the Clinton impeachment debates on this board with "USCongress" and friends.

Maven got very nasty with me when I posted something about my high school winning the CHSAA Championship, and I got some fact slightly wrong, he accused me of making stuff up, and wondered if I really went to that school, and worse. Childish.

In the vein of Old Guys talking old times, many many years ago, I became friendly through PMs with an alum living in Louisville, from Bklyn originally, I think his handle was Old '59 (year he graduated), but I could be wrong. Anyway, he was a really great guy. We didn't hear from him for a long time, and later his wife PM'd me and told me about his passing. Sad PM. Like I said a solid fan from way back in our glory days, his wife was a Kentucky girl and being from Louisville was a huge Louisville fan and a Denny Crum fan. She rooted for the Johnnies except if we were playing her Cardinals.

Years later pre-new League, I am sitting in not great seats at the Garden at a BE tournament game, who is alongside me but Denny Crum, looking like he did in his coaching days, with a rolled up piece of paper in his hand the whole game. Briefly said hello, a real gentleman.

Speaking of people who I haven't seen post in awhile, need to give a shout out to the owner of this site. Haven't seen him post lately, but know he does a ton of work behind the scenes to keep this thing running.

US Congress.  We had a couple of mutual friends.  Nice Guy.  I know Maven also and have a good relationship with him although we haven't communicated in awhile.

Fan Since 65 post still post here occasionally (I saw one last month) and still goes to games.

I really miss Northshore.  Not only was he a great poster but a really good human being. It was always great catching up with him at games and after he moved away, still corresponding with him.  He was just a class act.

Maven's son had at least a half a dozen screen names, I believe he was banned a couple times.  Was going by something to do with Stallion at one point.  Again, someone I'm sure Maher could update you about.

i miss Fun.... thought his posts were hysterical.
One of a kind and hysterical. He rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, which I'm certain that he didn't give a flying F about.  I'm probably in the minority, but I wish he'd come back.
