James Scott visiting SJU

Don't mind this legacy but he better be the only sit out transfer. Just wondering how much the staff has scouted him and why he wasn’t on the radar before to begin with since he is a sophomore.
2 star out of HS wasn't on many people's radar which is probably why he landed at Kennesaw Mountain Landis. May just be one of those late bloomers (just hope he doesn't wear them).
How many 2* are on the Loyola Chicago team going to the sweet 16? Point was he was a legacy and should have been on the radar.

Then you should be very happy to know that Matt is all over Mustapha Sasko and Muhammad Lasko in the 2020 class.

In my mind we've offered and he signed already.
Would be a very nice ‘get’. Very quick, skilled, guard—and getting better. And a legacy. Sweet—if it happens.
I don't know the family situation of ex - STJ players, but I would already have offered any Sealy, Artest, or Postell offspring.

Mikey Dixon was also a 2* out of HS.
Kids blossom at different times. James Scott looks very quick and is a big guard with good skills.
Like the Boss says, the key is to not peak in HS.
I agree he must be last 'sit out' transfer this cycle, but hoping we get him..

Kassoum, Yankuba, Mustapha, Muhammad, Mahmoud Abdul etc.
Does anyone remember Joe Dupre, John Warren, Ralph Abraham, Danny Cornelius, Carmine Calzonetti, and all the Frank, Bobby, George, Bill, Gregg, Tony , Walter and of course Chrises of the basketball world?
Just kidding! I have nothing against Polish names.:p

Yes kids and people blossom at different times - there are books and studies on this - and endless examples - I recall Don Mattingly and Andy Petrie being drafted after 200-300 other prospects.
Consistent w what many have posted - getting 2-3 stars and an occasional 4-5 or transfer is workable! Plus getting Kids who really want to be here :)

Never had the impression that Scott was viewed as BE level player by staff, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Is Andy Petrie related to Rob Petrie (Dick vanDyke)?

He played 2 years at kennesaw state so 2 years of eligibility would remain. Also his production doubled from freshman year to his sophomore year

He can come here. Sit a year, play a year, graduate and transfer :)
We are giving kids the opportunity to play more minutes in the process of giving them the opportunity to go to graduate school at a better school after graduating. At St. John's it's not about basketball but about giving kids a career path.:p

Ahhh good point lol
Make that
Andy Pettitte
He and Don Mattingly drafted way low - so much for accuracy of evaluations
Let’s go St. John’s

They're the exceptions, not the rules ... and that's not the ideal way to build a program, especially in an elite conference.

That’s odd, because Scott did very well against high major competition this season—Butler, U Washington, Fl State, and Tx Tech.
I only saw highlights, but he looked very quick, had 50 steals, and a nice shot beyond and inside the arc.
Maybe recruiting him now is ‘insurance’ to have some experienced continuity when Shamorie leaves and Dixon and Simon hit the feared ‘Grad transfer’ bracket?

Per Pat Lawless
James Scott tells me Nevada, Arizona, Maryland, St. John's, Dayton and Georgetown are all recruiting him hard as well. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Not sure about that

Favor perhaps for daddy to help drum up interest?

Kennesaw State transfer James Scott tells me he will visit Virginia Tech from April 13th-15th. Averaged 17.3 PPG last season. Two years of eligibility remaining. Per Rothstein
