With Harvey coming back, I say 130-32. Best record eva!Come back to me when we're 120-42 next season with Dilson as MVP and Black with the cy young.

The pitching is there for a run @ 2015 division. If Alderson has a A+ in assembling a lineup, we will next year. We need a Mike Piazza type aquistion in the middle of the lineup. Ya gotta believe!I actually think the Mets will be very good next year and will compete for a playoff spot. I think they will win the NL East in 2016. I hope they can move Colon for a young bat in the next few weeks since he has cleared waivers.
The rotation next year: Harvey, deGrom, Wheeler, Neise, Gee (wow) w/ Syndergaard ready to plug in for inevitable missed starts, DL time, and long relief. Montero is also ready to provide depth to rotation or pen.
The bullpen is the best I can remember as a fan: Edgin as the lefty specialist (1.90 era), Familia for the 7th, Black at the setup man and Mejia closing (22/25 saves). They might also re-sign Parnell to bolster the pen.
Duda has emerged as a serviceable bat and 30 homer threat. Herrera and Flores can hit. Murphy, even after arbitration, will be a bargain with his bat and versatility. Wright is Wright. Granderson can't be any worse. Conforto will be a big contributor. And I love our young role players: den Dekker, Nieuwenhuis, Campbell, Flores, etc.
If Wright and Grandy turn it around, it could be a different team. SS is the one area they really need to address. It's just unacceptable. Make a move for Starlin Castro (out for the year now with high ankle sprain)from the cubs. The Mets have the pieces and the Cubs love the blue-chipper, Baez. If not, sign Hanley Ramirez and let either Herrera or Flores develop behind him.

You're basically saying this team as constituted + a decent shortstop can make the playoffs next year?
No way. Too many gaping holes.
-Herrera has played in all of six major league games. And he plays the same position as our best hitter.
-Our young role players have these career batting averages Flores: .231 den Dekker: .227 Nieuenhuis (sic): .240. Only Campbell has shown a decent bat: .290.
-Conforto is in A ball.
-Would anyone's performance other than Lucas Duda's be called "breakout" with a falling .251 average, little clutch hitting and scary-ass fielding.
-Wright may very well be on a precipitous decline. Add Grandy to the list.
-And to get Starlin Castro (good hitter, terrible obp, terrible fielder) you would have to give up a prized pitcher and probably more.
Needs:
1 or 2 major outfield bats
Everyday shortstop
Leadoff hitter

I agree with your needs section, but I think you aren't giving the pitching enough respect. I am usually a big downer on the Mets, but with a healthy Harvey the pitching alone will put the team in contention next season barring serious injuries. Harvey-Wheeler-deGrom-Neise-Gee is the best and deepest rotation we've had in years. You are going to get 3-4 quality starts every time through the rotation with that group. You've got Syndergaard and Montero behind them to provide depth. The bullpen is the best we've had in years and they will all be a year older and more experienced next season--same with Wheeler and deGrom as well as d'Arnaud, Lagares, and all young role players.
The Mets are an extremely young team, but are only 8 games back of .500 without their ace Harvey (9-5 2.27 era last year) and with a lot of bad luck with injuries this year.
As for the light-hitting young role players, they have a ton of versatility and intangibles. Flores, unlike most of the others, will hit eventually. He's young and he raked all throughout the minors...he also can play 3-4 infield positions. den Dekker likely will never be a plus hitter, but his intangibles are awesome...amazing fielder that can play all three spots, great arm, great speed, high IQ, great effort. Nieuwenhuis is another versatile kid with good speed and decent bat. Campbell looks like he might have the best bat of the trio, but none of them are really every day guys.
I'm not a Duda fan. He made me want to puke before this season, so, yeah, I would call 30 homers in a pitcher's park a breakout year for him. He brokeout from crap to a servicable first basemen and our best power option. Murphy is our best hitter and luckily he can play a ton of positions. I'm not hanging my hat on Herrera, but I am very happy to have him in the fold next year. WIth Flores and Murphy, anything he gives the Mets is a plus. I think the kid is a future all-star, though.
Conforto is only in A+ ball now (why did it take so long to promote him with his experience and stats?) but he'll likely start in AA and get called up to the bigs before the year is up. He was considered the most major league ready position player in the draft.
Wright might be on the decline, but he still has time left and he was clearly bothered by nagging injuries this year. Granderson can't be worse than this year and a lot of people are expecting him to rebound next season. All things considered, eight behind .500 without Harvey and with a core of first and second year players all over the field, and with three top 100 prospects ready in AAA, gives me the first reasonable expecation of success in a decade.

I watch just about every Met game and I respectfully believe you are overrating the team. We do not know what Harvey will do when he returns. I expect him to be good but it could take a while to get back to his best and a re injury is always possible. DeGrom is a rookie and while very impressive, he needs to prove he can do it again. Wheeler needs a new pitching coach to keep his pitch counts down or he will never be more than a third starter. Gee and Niese are very average by NL standards. Syndegaard was terrible this year and Montero has showed nothing in the major leagues. I think it's a good rotation but slightly weaker than the league's best. I like the relieve pitching but think Familia should be the closer. I am not comfortable with Mejia in that role. DenDekker, Flores, and Nieuwenheis are not major league starters. Campbell is the best of the bunch but has little power. Wright will do better next year but how much? Granderson is on the downside of his career. D'arnaud is an average catcher. Conforto to hit 10 doubles and 3 Home Runs in 160 at bats in Brooklyn which is low A. Reminds me more of Daniel Murphy than Stanton and is a long way from the Major Leagues. I think the team will be better next year but as long as the Wilpons own the team, be prepared to have a low payroll and Alderson will be retiring soon.
We differ here. How about Wheeler (he has great stuff but is way to inconsistent. Can't go far in games with strikes. I look at the scoreboard and he is almost at 90 pitches @ 5 innings. I would keep Thor.), Plawecki(we have D'Arnaud or replace with D'Arnaud if Plawecki is better prospect), Herrera (I love him but a chip where we have Murphy(wilpon pay?)/Flores), Nimmo (we have Lageres). Just to add, no way I add Matz. Lefty with a few graded MLB pitches. The pitching is there for a run @ 2015 division. If Alderson has a A+ in assembling a lineup, we will next year. Would you trade Syndergaard, Montero, Matz, Nimmo, and Pawlecki for Stanton, who will have two years remaining before commanding one of the biggest contracts in baseball history? That is likely what it will take if we don't send them Wheeler or deGrom (both untouchable to me). I would make that trade for a guy that is the same age as our core.

Speaking of Lagares I'm not sure when the last met I can truly just enjoy watch playing the field as much. Maybe Hernandez was the last one before that
If the gun was correct, his last pitch was 97. That's just awesome. Plus, how can you beat that hair! He's bringing mullet back!deGrom strikes again. 8 innings, 0 runs, 3 hits, 0 walks, 9 strike outs, and he retired the last 14 he faced. Pitch count of just 100. I can't believe they pulled him. WTF? He was on cruise control. 75 strikes, throwing 96 in the 8th, up 2-0. You don't pull a pitcher with just 100 pitches three outs shy of a CG shutout.
ERA now stands at 2.62 on the year with an 8-6 record due to awful run support. He hasn't let up a run in 22 innings. If he doesn't win R.O.Y. it's a travesty. He was also 4-0 with a 2.58 ERA at AAA before the call-up. Three starts left to get to ten wins. He'd be 5th in the league in ERA but he is 17 innings shy of qualifying.
