It's just a game.

Well, college b’ball isn’t exactly Little League. It’s is a hybrid between the amateur players and being a big business for the schools and the coaches. And for the fans who pay top dollar to attend the games I think part of the entertainment value for that ticket price is being able to critique the performance—no matter how off base we may be!

Lavin’s a big boy. He and his peers understand that when things go off the rails, it could get ugly for them. It’s the business they’ve chosen.

If you were a recruit and followed the fan sites of teams you are considering, what would you think of the "Fire Lavin" thread?

When we all come to the realization that we are not, nor will be, a Kansas, Duke or Syracuse, we will all come to earth a lot softer. It has taken me a long time but I would be very happy to be a Gonzaga or even a Xavier with a happy fan base and a chance to dance every year. Had we closed the deal with Rico Gathers our rebounding woes would be much less and had a Darrick Wood qualified we would have had a shooter. I never like seeing a "fire coach" thread on a public site because I do not think it is fair to the kids. Lavin can take it but he is not going anywhere unless it is of his own choosing. I hope our current kids bring it on soon and if it is the NIT, so be it.

I would be ecstatic if we reached the level of a Gonzaga or Xavier.

Speaking about Woods I have been thinking about him. I read hes supposed to be a good shooter. He is currently at JC. Have we lost interest in him?

Agreed a "fire Lavin" thread is uncalled for at this point, and that Lavin is likely not going anywhere for a while. But at the same time the criticism is warranted IMO. And it has nothing to do with unrealistic expectations and everything to do with the fact that the team is not playing like a cohesive unit much of the time and that some of the players seem to be regressing.

Beast you really think these kids care about what a group of anonymous posters/disgruntled fans are saying on some web-site? They're listening to their parents, coaches, handlers and friends. They form their opinions based on them, not us.

I do think that kids get excited about a program where fans pack the gym, scream all game, and support the program to the Nth degree. Reading this site, which I am sure prospects would do, what would your impression be?

If I were the parent of a recruit, I would tell him that the fans are expressing their frustration with the team and coach because of the past 10+ years and because of the perception(rightfully or not) that this team as underachieving so far this year. I would also tell him that the fan base is passionate or they wouldn't be posting anything. If I were a parent/handler/coach I wouldn't give a damn about what is posted on here and I would tell the recruit that he shouldn't either. But maybe that's just me.

I know for a fact that players do read the boards but in general they find stuff that is said to be funny because they know none of us actually know anything about basketball or what's happening with the team and they think we're all idiots, which is a fairly accurate assessment. I'm sure recruits and their families read too but the thing is every big school has boards like this and many of them, especially the bigger schools, have far more moronic posters than we do.

It's hard to imagine colleges having dumber posters than St. John's. Just when I thought we led the country in SOMETHING. :)

Oh yeah ? Tell Max he will play 7 minutes and get pulled after he makes his 2nd shot and won't have any picks set for him and tell branch he's going to get benched for bouncing the ball on the floor and tell Sanchez he's fouled out before he can say plantains.

If it was only a game, we'd get in for free.

If we'll never be Syracuse or Kansas or Duke, why isn't the school charging Hofstra/Fordham/Iona prices?

Some things are out of perspective here.

While I agree the Carnesseca Arena prices are high for the level of accommodation I do not think we can lower the Garden prices. I think the fact that we call MSG home has a lot to do with the unbalanced prices. Something to discuss.
They are trying to maintain a quality image via pricing but the product needs improving. I am sure if we were ranked top 5 no one would complain about the prices.

And if it really mattered who won or lost, we'd send troops out to defend courts. It's entertainment, and the reason men are more attracted to sports is that while our wives are taking care of kids, doing more household chores than us, and busy with more important things, we are glued to TV sets attracted to games that really don't affect our lives.

we call MSG home
Yet they only played 2 home games at MSG, I believe the SHU is at Carneseca so the next three coming up is there.

I think the Knicks and Rangers have some good home stretches.
And then we don't play at CA the rest of the year.

Until the NIT probably :)
