What use is Shanahan? Is he going to recruit Marner with $11 million of Malkin and Ledecky money?

He built an extremely soft and top heavy team. Not a Shanahan fan. Toronto will be happy to get rid of him.
 
So looks like Shanahan is now a free agent. This feels like he is going to be the next President of the team. I am not sure how I feel about it. Want to see who the GM is, assuming they hire two people for the two roles.
 
I like this move for the reasons we previously discussed. Now let’s see what they do with President and if it is Shanahan, someone else or no one.

Love the hire, and he will report directly to ownership. Shanahan is not coming. Win. Win.
 
Darche resigned Palmieri, that means that this will not be a rebuild but a retool. Darche still needs to let the young guys play and not bury them in the organization the Lamoriello did. You have Cal Ritchie, Cole Eiserman, Danny Nelson, Isaiah George, Calle Odalius and whoever they draft with the top Pick. Anders Lee, Casey Cizickas, JP Pageau and Pelech all need to go. You still have plenty of returnees in Barzal, Horvat, Dobson, Holmstrom, Pulock, Romanov, Sorokin, Tsyplakov and Boquist. Plus they have some free agent money to spend. No more burying the young guys in order to go out and sign a 35 year old veteran who won’t have legs come playoff time.
 
Looking like they are trying to somehow bring the local boy back home with those Montreal picks to play with tonight.
 
So now Barzal is late to practices and is getting benched. He is at the crossroads in my opinion, either get on board or they should seriously consider trading him. He is not a star on our team anyway and has the contract of one. This GM did not sign him to this contract and will obviously do what is best for the franchise since his loyalty is to the team and not specifically Barzal.

He's way more valuable to a good team, which we currently are not. If a nice haul if offered, I jump at it.
