Is Obekpa Next? No! He's staying!

The St John's PR team clearly felt no need to share this:

Soooo.....if anybody else decides to transfer, like one or two other starters, what would happen? We'd actually field a team with 7 walk-ons? Seems incredible.

There will be some freshmen signings and transfers. So much playing time available almost guarantees that.
How talented the new guys will be is the big question.

Come on Mike over Obekpa ,who seams to have quit the team in the middle of the most important game of the season

We needed obekpa for next season...

Agree. For those who think the loss of CO is no big thing, from "Rumble in the Jungle":

Obekpa, a 6'9" center, has been known for his statistically dominant shot blocking - which landed him in the top-three nationally in percentage of opponent shots blocked (15.7%) and earned him the top spot last season (15.8%). His efforts have launched St. John's from a poor defensive team to a squad that improved its 2-point defense from 250th in the nation to 40th - a leap that coincided with St. John's winning records in the past two years.

What if there was a SJU basketball team and no one was there to play on it, would it still go through 30 minute stretches of completely mind numbing basketball?

Yes. And we'd all still yell about it on this forum

This loss hurts us so much more than losing Sampson. Wow.
Bright side...six scholarships open for transfers.

so let me get this straight, leaving are: Gods Gift- Grad, Sanchez-Grad, Bourgault-Grad, Sampson-D_League, Obekpa-Transfer, an Hooper-Transfer. WOW!!!!
the tallest guy we have left is 6-7 Jones and next is 6-5 pointer. lol, hate to say it fellas.....Lavin is GONE! we are a complete mess next year and Jordan should flee the building on fire too. What a laughing stock we have become....Im really upset!!!!!!

Agreed, as next season is looking dire, but if the Obekpa that was going to return was the one we saw the last two games last season, then the team also didn't need him.

The model will have to be UConn who have done miracles this year with their guards and D'andre and a bunch of bodies. That said obviously the team needs to pick up a few big coachable bodies who can at least defend and board. Napier is great, I think Jordan can be great. Boatwright's very good but D'Angelo by every metric is better. While Marillac and others will say it's never gonna happen, Dom has to make a giant step as well. Unfortunately there's no D'Andre Daniels out there to be had.

I love the opptimism coming from you.

But you do understand you sound more and more like the kight who had all his limbs chopped off and insisted they were just flesh wounds in Monty Pytjon and the Holy Grail.

I doubt Jordan will be Napier like in his second year. A lot to ask

I doubt St Johns will be UConn like next year too, but all a fan has is dreams or nightmares, gotta choose one. LOL

If Baylor and Oregon are the 2 possible landing spots than you really have to question the kid's makeup. Talk about two shady programs.
