Is an SJU season ticket worth it?

Pretty soon, renewal forms will go out, and like sheep, many of us will send SJU $1200-1300 to renew tickets. In the past many of us renewed to simply hold on to good seat locations, hoping that they would be tough to come by if/when the squad returned to winning ways and fans flocked to CA and the Garden. In recent years though, it's become clear that SJU holds out better seat locations for per game sales, and many fans buying a single game ticket ended up in better locations than season ticket holders. Combine this with the fact that as attendance sags, those same tickets are brokered at a discount through groupon type offers. So, it becomes aggravating that single game fans attending one of the better conference rivals have been able to pick up tickets for less money and better locations. The school's silence on the matter reeks of a PT Barnum type attitude except that in our case the suckers have hung around for 10-20-30 or more seasons.

Your thoughts?

Have to agree.

Since I have been buying either season or single game tickets for many years they are worth it but I feel the people in charge of selling tickets do a terrible job.
Season ticket holders are taken for granted
Charging thirty dollars for a top tier seat vs. NJIT is terrible marketing
Tickets were sold on a group basis for last years Darthmouth game and the arena was close to a sellout.Do more of this. A full house may not mean a big increase in money but it does add to the games enjoyment.Half full arenas don't help recruiting either.
I know winning and getting to the final 8 or 16 will create a ticket demand but winning 25 games a season and advancing in post season is not feasible anymore.

Not only does that create a better atmosphere, but it also creates fans who will eventually have money to buy season tickets.

anxiously awaiting gman's reply.
He gets it.

Haha quite right. I do miss having season tickets but like beast posted I see no reason to do if. I think the school thought we would be selling out games under Lavin but that hasn't happened.

The weeknight 9pm games aren't helpful. I realize this isn't just an SJU issue, but it's bad for business.

Anyone know if this will be the case again this year?

I'm sure it will be. It's a necessary evil of having every game on national TV and having teams in other time zones in the conference.

The pleasure of sitting among Mike Maher and his entourage is well worth the price of the storm saver package.

Last season Moose was in my section. I wonder what that would imply if I don't renew.

There should be room in 114 for both of you. You can listen to the in game commentary of Ralph and legendary Joe Jagde.

If we are Mike's entourage, we are woefully inept. Everyone knows a good entourage does nothing but spend the celebrity's money. So I declare this season is to spend Mike's fortune in ways that would make MC Hammer's entourage blush. :p

If the stock market keeps going up it will be bronx pale ales for all my friends in 114 :)

I have been a Mets fan since '62. A few very magical moments surrounded by years and years of....., well, being a Mets fan. I still go to 15-20 games a year; I'm also a Johnnies fan and will continue to go to games because, well......I am a Johnnies fan. I don't have season tickets to anything because I have other interests that take up my time but I will always go to 7-10 (or more) SJU games a year.

Whenever I run in Joe Jagde at a game, his most common line is "One more thing..." as his friends scream at him that they are leaving.

Ever since they instituted the point system, I have boycotted season tickets and instead buy single game tickets to every game.

If we let Joe keep going we would never make it home.

If you don't move into 114 you at least have to visit at half time for a Pale Ale.

I'll definitely do one or the other. Joe is one of the all-time good guys. He used to ring my doorbell just to chat basketball. He actually was a pretty good ballplayer and could hold his own against the likes of Hank Cluess, Pete LaMantia, George Bruns, and numerous other former college players.

the tickets are definitely not worth it. I only buy them out of loyalty to st johns but st johns doesnt reward loyalty they punish it

Just got my renewal notice in the mail today. The Mrs and I are discussing whether this is a good use of $1265.00. That's $625 per ticket for two tickets plus a $15 service charge. Service charge? :-o
