Did Darling have a poor first half? I know he didn’t score but St. John’s had 45 points and the lead at half. The minutes I saw in the second half I thought he impacted us playing well. +5 for the game. Did he guard lipsey early on?
Very up and down. He played 16 minutes in it. He was exhausted by the end of it.

Heartbreaking.

Have to win tomorrow. Do we get a 3rd game if we do? I am assuming not but have no clue.

Awful end. So much talent but not so much heart. Too many liabilities on defense. Where is the rebounding? Any team with 2 quality guards will break this team down.

Right now I have no interest in watching tomorrow. But know I will be back for more. Not sure we can beat any quality team at this point. These are the teams we need ho beat if we want a deep march run. This team will run through the Big East and hopefully not get embarrassed by Pukon. Then first SEC team or B12 team we see in March will beat us by 4 points

Hopefully one of the ref's wives was sitting a couple seats away from Bucketshardy and got impregnated by his magnetic personality and has a diehard st johns fan baby

Oh, it is on him. He didn't use the challenge and he left a timeout in his pocket on the most important possession of the game.
This is what I would call a 73 year old senior coaching moment BUT where are the effen asst coaches???? How do you not get the shooters positioned off a a time out??

Pitino and the coaches allowed a bad call to go unchallenged but then he doesn't even use his last time out!!!!

As for the players, Sanon has not shown anything and shot terrible. Jackson is no Jenkins......not by a mile! The offense is a disorganized mess. Pitino should have had Dillon Mitchell on Momcilovic like a fly on shit!

The presser better not focus on the players because they didn't get a HoF coach today!

He was fine. Though Rick has to change the entire defensive gameplan for him. We hedged all Lipsey ball screens which led to us getting absolutely cooked in the short roll multiple times

The reason, for me at least, is that Ian is so constitutionally not a point guard & never was, that I can't blame him for not filling in those shoes. It never made sense. If Rick wasn't Rick, I think it would've gotten a lot more heat. Joson is a wing, so different position.

But I do agree, if they both actually played well on defense & did *something else* but score against quality competition, we probably win tonight.

My ire is more towards Matt and Rick than Darling, for the record.
I agree and am also thinking Matt and Rick messed up aspects of this roster construction.

I think with Ian, I am getting so frustrated, cause okay I can accept he’s not a point guard. But at his size and speed, he should be able to penetrate off the dribble (he can) and kick to open shooters (he can’t? Yet?). It’s not that he needs to be a full on point guard, but he needs a mindset change when he’s out there. As does Sanon.

They need to buy in that they’re both not just in there to score and actually try to improve some of these other parts of their game. And maybe they are behind the scenes, just hasn’t really accumulated into anything that we can see

I’m five vodka sodas and two shots deep and still haven’t gotten a pity lap dance for this loss.
Go to CANZ for the lap dance.

It's still far too early in the season to say what will or won't occur, but we may have been better off only recruiting one of Sanon or Jackson, and put the other bucks towards a point guard. Darling is solid and has clearly shown he can play at this level, but as a few others have stated, he's probably not a 30mpg guy.

I don't think that Darling has the physical ability to keep it up for 40 minutes. We need a backup.

Tough loss. Sellers and Mitchell played well. Hopkins missed some bunnies but scored 20 and hustled on defense. Zuby posted decent numbers but got beat by Buchanan on a couple offensive rebounds. He could have been playing to not foul out or hurting from that hard fall. Sanon, Jackson and Darling need to step up. Prey surprisingly had no impact on the game. Pitino ….?

That is absolute nonsense. Any defense at this level hedges screens, otherwise the screen just leaves the ball handler wide open. The only change Pitino made was putting Mitchell on Lipsey when Darling got in foul trouble.
The fact is Lipsey didn’t even need the screen when Pitino tried Sanon or Jackson on him, he just absolutely blew right by them.
