Iowa St., Mon., Nov. 24, 4:30p, TruTV / 1050 AM

I’m five vodka sodas and two shots deep and still haven’t gotten a pity lap dance for this loss. Matt A’s a good dude, but he can’t spot real talent.
What I mean is—he doesn’t know what actually makes a guy a player.
Take Marvin Clarke. Izzo tried turning him into Draymond Green, but at St. John’s he insisted on living on the perimeter—that’s who he was.
Sanon and Jackson? Hope they prove me wrong, but right now they’re just prospects.
Long season ahead… and for what we spent, let’s just say the money wasn’t exactly invested wisely.

Did Darling have a poor first half? I know he didn’t score but St. John’s had 45 points and the lead at half. The minutes I saw in the second half I thought he impacted us playing well. +5 for the game. Did he guard lipsey early on?

So much of the discussion is about darling but if Ian and joson (two players much HIGHER rated than Darling) could just be half decent combo guards and play some defense we wouldn’t need darling to be on the floor 24/7
The reason, for me at least, is that Ian is so constitutionally not a point guard & never was, that I can't blame him for not filling in those shoes. It never made sense. If Rick wasn't Rick, I think it would've gotten a lot more heat. Joson is a wing, so different position.

But I do agree, if they both actually played well on defense & did *something else* but score against quality competition, we probably win tonight.

My ire is more towards Matt and Rick than Darling, for the record.

Still very early within the season boys, the one thing this team lacks desperately besides a PG is go to scorer, the last few years we had primary bucket getters when we needed it . Hopefully Jackson or Joson gain the confidence they desperately need to become that for us, ( and what they were projected to do) if that doesn’t happen I can see this being a roller coaster of a season. Hopefully I’m wrong. (If only RJ stuck around!!!!) just thinking out loud.
