He won't be leaving the metropolitan area.
 
I hope this contract extension ends all the crazy rumours out there, that Cluess will be the coach next year due to Lavin's health.

 
 
 If Lavin ever were to leave, I'd certainly put Cluess at the top of my list. I was hesitant until he grabbed a D1 job which he has done now and done a good job at. It's important if he wants to step to the big leagues of D1 ball. Glad to see him take that Iona job and getting it done.

Or he's waiting for a job he wants. It has always been reported that he wants to stay local. He made the requisite move to D1 if he does want a bigger job. I personally think he'll stay at Iona because I don't see him leaving the area at this point, but who knows.

well francesa has a man crush with clues so mike's questions were pretty easy. 
 
Cluess' overall record at D1, which many here said he wasn't ready for: 42-17, consistent with what he's done everywhere.

He's an outstanding guy, and terrific coach. Before long he will be on every list when a major job opens up.

It was sickening listening to Francesa talking up Cluess before he came on. Man crush may be putting it mildly

I was/am a big advocate of Cluess coming to SJU very early on, and was roundly scoffed at here (even Cluess said all the talk on here was ridiculous).

To my recollection, I wasn't for Cluess over Lavin - none of us were aware SJU was playing in the $1.5 million per pond. It would be revisionist on my part to weigh in on that subject without remembering precisely, given Lavin's terrific campaign last season, assembly of a terrfic staff, and the great recruiting job he has done.

I do think that from this point forward, Cluess will be on every long list for a top college job. I hope he sticks around the area. He certainly a terrific guy with absolutely no airs whatsoever.

I agree, he'll be the Rutgers coach after next Season when Rice leaves for a bigger program.

I heard the rumour from two independent sources, and there was some implication on this board a while back maybe December early January. I did not want to post because I did not believe it, partially because nobody knows Lavin's health and to spread rumours like that is premature and hurtful.

The contract extension is the reason I brought it up today, becuase the rumour is not true and Lavin is here for the long term and Cluess is extended at Iona.

Ah, thanks. I missed when it was mentioned here. I love Cluess, but if for some reason Lavin did have to leave, I really think Dunlap would get the nod. That is, unless some fairly young hot shot expressed real interest through back channels.
