Interior Presence

Thanks, CRG- must be a minor masochistic phase as I was at NYU, pre-season #1 with Kramer, Hairston, McKenzie, Bennett, Boose, Patton and as of the day before the season minus their one true point guard, Neil O'Neill, ruled academically ineligible. They went on to lose 10 games including the NIT consolation to Army under Bob Knight. I think the Bruins fared somewhat better in '64.

Happy Hairston went on to become a truly outstanding pro, but Barry Kramer , I think was the star of that team.

He was a deadeye shooter from Schenectady, I think with a tremendous reputation out of high school.

He had a great career at NYU but for some reason a problem existed with team chemistry
I don't remember whether it was Kramer, the team or Rossini but  something was a problem there and the program went downhill.

Kramer had added upper body weight going in to the '63-64 season and three weeks before the season landed on Stan McKenzie in practice with severe left ankle sprain the result. With Kramer hurt and carrying more weight on a bad ankle, the one real point guard ineligible, and a roster loaded with talented newbies, the team never truly meshed, blown out by University of Toledo Rockets with point guard Larry Jones in the old Garden. Nine more losses would follow.

I still would like to see a 6'11" center

why? curtis johnson, phil wait and abe keita were all 6'11 and up and did nothing. the fact is in the NBA there are hardly any 6'11 guys who can play, let alone the college level.

a collection of athletic, versatile 6'9 guys will do just fine.
