Inside The Big East

Providence is hot with 4wins in a row! When we need to beat them we never do! I think we lose this one!

I have been concerned about this game all along. With our recent poor play, we can't count on a win here, so where, besides South Florida, are the wins going to come from?

South Florida is starting to look like a NIT play in game.

You guys need to get a grip. We've beaten better teams than Providence. They're playing well...so what? We can beat anyone left on our schedule including them.

What makes me laugh is we'll go and beat them, and then a hundred guys will be on this site saying it's not a big win and doesn't matter because it's Providence. Whatever.

I'll let you know how I feel about this game after Proviedence plays Syracuse this week. They are only 1 game behind St John's now.

Bottom line is that we still have our own destiny in our hands. I was really hoping uconn would take care of Nova. Need to hope they slip up and we need to not only beat USF and Providence, but we need to win 2 more to feel really good about it. We might even need to seal it up in the BET. Right now Nova certainly ahead of us.

If Lavin sought my counsel, which he won't and shouldn't, I'd advise him to forget about a kid's athleticism and look for a kid who can play and understand BB...

We've been killed this season by outside shooting, slow footed, small guards that can and do drill the 3..

Maybe Steve should begin a search for the Archidonato, Heslip,Doolin, Cotton type players .. They are clearly better shooters than anybody we have shooting the 3.. Marc A. is still a work in progress and it makes you wonder why it took so long to get him off the bench.. Greene must still think he's on bench the way he ignores him

Too much is made about slow kids defense.. W e have athletes who can barely spell defense.Their great leaping ability doesn't mean much when other school's kids can leap just as high. And, rebound better..

And, too much is made about Top 100 kids. Some of them couldn't find the basket with a map. And, free throws?

Cincy needs to be careful, as they are also currently 7-6.

They don't "catch a break" 'til the final game of the season.

yep, and Archdukeferdinand has not had a big game since that 30 plus opener. I don;t know why St, John's makes these type of guys look good

Arcidiocono scored 25 up at Yukon to lead Nova to a 9 point win. Wish we had the kid on our team, he is better then any PG we have and te kid is only a freshman, and he did it against Yukons back court. Nova ahead of us in NCAA bids.
Yeah Arcid a pretty good freshman who some of our fans were denigrating (may have been more on JJ) probably the same ones who are always singing the praises of Geno and Boothe.

Cincy is toast. Perfect example of what probably will be a 20 win team that doesn't/shouldn't make the NCAA tourney. Mick loaded up on cupcakes during their OOC and had a favorable early conference schedule.

Love seeing a C-7 team send Cuse fans home pissed off, but Nova has gone from a friendly threat to clearly above us and they might even be ranked on Monday. 18-10 with 3 ranked wins no worse than top 17. Next year they will be a top 15 team if not better. The question is, when can we become a team like that? They win the big games against the best of them while we have been blown out in 2 recent big games. We need to win out now otherwise Nova will easily get in over us.

Cuse will not be nearly as dominant in the ACC. They also have the benefit of seemingly playing at home 90% of their games. Didn't matter tonight though.

st.j's should never play in dome again unless its ncaa regional screw them they need a game on our court

All Nova's big wins are at home. Huge difference.
Now St. John's can have 2 big wins at home Pitt and Marquette.
These are must wins at this point. By the way we are not
fighting Nova per se as they can easily invite 9 Big East teams.
It's been done before.

When can we become a team like Nova? We would have beat them on their home floor if Garrett didn't foul the three-point shooter.

OK,

1. You act like if Nova gets in we don't. I understand there are only so many bids to go around in the Big East, but Cincy is not a lock and ND could still play themselves onto the bubble.

2. We could very well play NOVA in a 8/9, 7/10 game in Big East Tournament, so winning out is not our only chance to prove to the committee that we are more worthy than Nova to play in the tournament.

3. Nova lost to Providence twice this year. If we beat the Friars up at the Dunkin Donuts center that goes in the plus column for us when you compare us head to head.

4. There is still a lot of ball to be played, Nova could turn around a drop one to Seton Hall, and they are in big trouble if they do.

Nova just feels like a different team than us. I see them up to play #17 Marquette and I think to myself "they can easily win it". With us up against #17 Marquette I think "we can win it, but the odds are well against us". We are still at the point where beating any ranked team is a huge deal. Nova is at the point where they have a shot against anyone in the nation. It has been like this for years now...I root against Nova and all they do is win and against the top teams too. If you wouldn't be more confident as a Nova fan going down this stretch then I think you are honestly lying to yourself. If I had to bet who gets further this year, I would probably be confident betting a lot on Nova vs. us. That doesn't mean I don't want us to be better...obviously I do badly. We just aren't at their level yet and look around...they were 1 of 5 teams projected to go from good to great next year. We were not in there. I just see us as a solid team that can take teams down, but we still get beat by the biggest competition and we have too many inexplicable losses. I don't think we are consistent enough yet.

Getting blown out by Columbia and losing to Providence twice isn't questionable?

Providence is not a bad team and Columbia isn't the end of the world. We lost to Asheville, USF, and Rutgers. Nova has done so well they may be able to lose out and still get in the tourney.

Joe, why do I get the impression that any romantic relationships you've ever been in were absolute disasters?

Well as a psych student, I surmise it might be because thinking such may make you feel better about your life? Other than that not sure.
