Kill me if you want for asking this question, but it is legit.

Do we look for another coach or extend him for 2 years only because of the possible "powerful recruiting class" coming?

Here's where I stand.
I'd give him 2 years max, if he wants more, then good bye.
I'm willing to give him one more "core recruiting class", and seeing what he could do with them, before giving up on Lavin. I think that's fair.

Just wondering, would realfan give Lavin a 2nd chance? Oh well let people think as they want.

I think that is what is going to happen. They let Lavin recruit this year and then he is on a short lease the next two years. If we fire him now we won't get any recruits for next year and will roll out 5 scholly players.

I'd let him sign this recruiting class. Then I'd ask all of the players that signed if they would stay if the coach was gone. Then I'd fire Lavin and hope they stick to their words and stay.

No, it's over. He's had 2 top 5 recruiting classes that he's done nothing with. He's had one full 4 year cycle of a top 5 recruting class and has done nothing with them. He is not a good coach or team builder. He can smooth talk headcases into thinking he will bring them to the NBA and that's about it.

That will never happen. Either they let him go and release the kids or he stays and coaches who he recruits,

And I don't think the kids will sign LOIs unless they know the staff is back. Maybe if they keeps the assistants they would stick around,

Doesn't he have another year left? So why do anything? If he's here next year those kids are coming. Sure he'll be somewhat handcuffed as far recruiting beyond next year, but that's the way it goes.

Most coaches don't coach their final year without and extension, atleast I don't think.

IF he signs a monster recruiting class then yes resign him for a couple years. I don't see that happening if we perform poorly on the court.

True, they don't have to do anything. But I don't that is fair to any of the parties involved.

Fans like you and me have no bearing on this conversation. This is all up to the administration. If they believe in him and think they'll get a good ROI, then they should extend him. If they have no faith in him and think he's too expensive for the results that he has provided, then they need to cut ties and move on. Simple as that. No push off the decision, just pull the trigger one way or the other and let's get past it.

Senseless strategy. He leaves, the good ones like Sampson or Diallo (if they get him) go elsewhere.

If Monasch is gone, then wouldn't the new AD ultimately make the decision anyway? I thought Monasch was on the hot seat and his attitude lately has indicated that he already has 1 foot out the door.

Partially agree, but here's the problem: you cut ties with him after this season then next year we've got no one coming in. We will be set back so far that it could take years for us to dig out the hole. If he stays another year, at least we get some decent kids here next year. And once they're here, even if Lavin is gone after next year, they're likely not going anywhere.

Well said, I totally agree.

IMO if he signs a monster class they let him coach next year and see what he does. If he does nothing, then they don't renew him. I so badly want Sampson, Daughty and hopefully Diallo and some other kids here for next year, that I'm willing to suffer through the pain of watching Lavin coach for one more year.

I agree, I just can't see players signing if we have a bad year.

Immediate & prime PT usually trumps our results.
