Ideal Starting Lineup

So what's everyone's dream starting lineup? Mine is probably

Jordan
Harrison
Sampson
Obekpa
Sanchez

no problem with having Sampson at the 3, he plays like one anyway

Starting 5:
PG- Jordan
SG- Harrison
SF- Dom
PF- Jakarr
C- Obekpa

Equal balance of offense and defense.

Set rotation:
PG- Jordan/Branch
SG- Harrison/Greene
SF- Dom/Hooper
PF- Jakarr
C- Obekpa/Sanchez

Gift, Felix, Marco should never take their warmups off unless one of the above players picks up 2 first half fouls.

If by chance one of our starting guards gets in early foul trouble and you have to bring Felix in, you full court press every single time Felix is on the court.

Obekpa needs the lion share of minutes at C because he completely changes the game.

Jakarr needs to be slotted at PF. Never should he roam outside of 17 feet.

Greene must always be on the floor only with either Jordan or Branch running the point. And he should never handle the ball in the backcourt.

Jordan and Branch should never be on the court at the same time. It's redundant.

If the opposing team is playing zone, Dom must not be on the court.

Zone rotation:
PG- Jordan/Branch
SG- Harrison/Greene
SF- Hooper
PF- Jakarr
C- Sanchez

@franfraschilla: No more head games now that Big East is here. SJU has to let Rysheed Jordan go and live with the results. He's their difference-maker.

That lineup makes me want to throw up. Sampson needs to be in the mid to low post, setting screens, or curling of screen for a quick pop. He offers us nothing on the perimeter.

Jordan-Branch-Harrison-Sampson-Obekpa is my lineup right now. I'm fed up with Sanchez and Dom at the moment, and I don't want Sampson thinking he is anything but a face-up four for the rest of this season. If Branch doesn't get dirty, I'd go with Balamou after he gets his sea legs.

Completely agree. He needs 30 mpg and whatever he doesn't play should go to Branch.

WE LOST YESTERDAY BECAUSE THE STARTING LINEUP INCLUDED ACHIUVA AND GREENE.THEY ARE ROLE PLAYERS,MY STARTING LINEUP
JORDAN
HARRISON
BRANCH OR OPECKA
SAMPSON
SANCHEZ

Are you sure that it was the lineup and not all you drank last night?

At this point I'd almost settle for any reasonable lineup. We've had 4 opportunities to start building a tournament resume (wisco, win the Barclays, cuse, and x) and are 0-4 in large part because despite 20 games as a unit the last 5 months we have no lineup, no rotation, and as a result sporadic chemistry and cohesiveness.

We're in the phase of the season now where every game is an opportunity and it's time to stop messing around and play the best players the majority of the minutes. Not a difficult concept. Doesn't mean the results will alter but at least we'll be putting our best foot forward. This is one thing that is completely within our control. The coaching staff saw the second half against cuse same as we all did. Why we would move away from the players on the court during the best 17 minutes we've played all year I really have no idea.

Jordan, Harrison, Sampson, Sanchez, pointer and obekpa. Let those 6 run the lion's share of the minutes in various permutations and live with the results. Branch takes the backup pg minutes, Greene the backup off guard/wing minutes (especially if we need a scoring lift), and gift is the reserve big. We actually have a pretty balanced roster, we just aren't using it that way. No excuse for that at this stage in a critical season for the program.

It's not who starts the game....it's who finishes. God's Gift started, yes. But he ended up only playing 8minutes. Lavin really only played 7 players yesterday, and I have no problem with some other guys getting some minutes here and there.

Except at critical times he went without a point guard on the court and we became immobile and unbalanced on offense against a team with quick guards.

The News said Gift started to match up with Stainback, but we came out in a 3-2 or 1-2-2 zone for most of the half. Anybody think Jordan would have been as effective at the point of that zone as Sampson, and much more of an option at the offensive end than Gift?

And why did Lavin wait so long to get Jordan into the game?

They jumped out to a huge lead, why are you questioning that aspect of the game? Everything else is fair game, but you can't knock the starting lineup when we enjoyed our best start of the season.

If that "best start" was Xavier missing their first 10+ shots and we could only get our lead to 9, than our starts this year really have been bad. Most if not all of Xavier's shots in the first minutes of the game were wide open, they just missed. We had an opportunity to capitalize on them not being able to score, but couldn't because we had no point guard out on the floor.

Even DLo said in postgame quotes that they should have gotten out to a bigger advantage. I'm simply stating that Jordan would have been as effective in the top of the zone as Karr and much more effective on the offensive end. And why did Lavin put in Jordan after Branch?

Wouldn't be shocked if something happened with Jordan. Too bad our 'beat' writers never ask challenging questions.

And defense had nothing to do with the missed shots? Nothing at all? We failed to capitalize all game long.

Defense was mostly atrocious. Jack has a good eye and if you re-watch the game the number of wide open 3's and cuts leading to baskets was inexcusable. Pointer and Sampson were particularly ineffective. On offense, the last 5 minutes was same old same old with Harrison taking wild shots and Lavin being caught on national TV describing his desperation defensive strategy....foul to stop the effen clock!
I am actually dreading the starting line up for the Hoya game!
If we were in the old Big East this year I have no doubt whatsoever we would be a bottom dweller.
Much is said about Lavin's recruiting ability but we either cannot develop our recruits or we are ending up with damaged goods that are nationally ranked. The power conferences and schools are getting Nordstrom products and we are getting Nordstrom Rack. I would not be surprised if we fail miserably this year that we look in another direction and that Shaka Smart or another A10 coach becomes a top priority. The question would be if our prime benefactor would be willing to fund the last year of experiments gone wild.
