If he’s happy we all will be. He’s a big body and very athletic. Actually having big 2 guys over 6’9” would make a real difference next season.
Any chance he becomes eligible this season???
Zero

I think some guys are misunderstanding transfer rule.

The issue is not that he played in 1 game or played in any games. The issue is he enrolled at NC St. And per transfer rules you need to complete 1 year of non playing residency at your new school before you are eligible. Therefore assuming he enrolls in January he would need to complete 2 semesters before he is eligible to play regardless of whether he played or not. That is why he won't be eligible until end of 1st semester in December of next year. Remember Sid Wilson enrolled at SJU for summer school. Not only did he not play in a game he never made it to Fall classes. Guess what? By rule had to still sit out all of last year at UCONN. Wh? Because he enrolled at SJU before he transferred to UCONN and he must fulfill his 1 full year of residence requirement at UCONN before he is eligible.

Here is where SJU may petition the NCAA. Not to have him play earlier but have him not lose a full year of eligibility. In other words when he is eligible next December presumably will he be a sophomore with 3 years left or redshirt freshman with 4 years left like Wilson at UCONN?

So if he took spring and the summer session '19 could he be eligible Fall '19?

No. The summer school does not count as a semester. But it does count for enrollment purposes.

Remember most major college athletes take summer classes regardless if they are transferring or not. But no it does not count towards your full year of residency requirement.

Again as noted earlier this is very similar to Jamal Branch. He transferred and enrolled in January of 2012 after playing in 11 games for Texas A&M early in the 2011-12 season. Obviously he burned a full year of eligibility by playing in 11 games and thus has 3 years left of eligibility when he came to SJU and began playing in December of 2012.

Steere has only played in 1 game. So my guess is the school (and hopefully NC St supports it) will try to get that full year of eligibility back. Or else he literally burned an entire year of eligibility with 1 game. But don't expect him to play any earlier than December of 2019.

It is my impression SJU will indeed try to get that year back. Thanks for clarifying transfer rules.

Big difference between Wilson and Steere is that Steere played in a game. BTW, what is going on with Wilson?Haven’t seen him in a box score.

Was suspended, but apparently is practicing.

Best part is Matt finds these guys with 3 years eligibility. I don’t mind Steere sitting out first half next year, if he’s ready to go for league play. Would be nice to start our recruiting class with a likely Juco AA and a former 3-4* big guy, both with potentially 3 years eligibility.

The way it is now you are lucky to get any player to stay 3 years in your program. Youre absolutely right, ready to play guys like LJ with 3 full years are invaluable

Very happy still seeing Steere as your avatar, Paultz. Thanks!
Bump. Paultz, any expectancy that we hear soon?
Yes

Thanks Mr. P, RMW, Chicago and others...a reflection...
Is this entire Red Storm Universe - games, players, progress, possibilities - so much more fun and enjoyable now than it was circa 2015-16-17???
Are we starting to see many more positive or constructive posts rather than negative and at times brutally caustic, critical?
Are we starting to see more satisfaction than disappointment in the air?

Slowly and steadily Chris Mullin (always a winner) and company have move us in an upward direction. Not perfect. Have not grabbed all the recruits we would have liked. Have not had as many Ws as we would have liked (albeit if Marcus Lovett had not disappeared on us last season would likely have been a positive one).

Like America the beautiful not perfect with W's and Ls but very special and-
I would like to see the Red Storm program become that exact way!
That is the direction and "the rest of the story"!

Thanks fellow posters and thanks for this board.
Blessings to all of us.
