NC State transfer Ian Steere will officially visit St. John's this weekend, source told ESPN.

Was a four-star prospect coming out of high school, left NC State last week.

This is all just happening so fast. Even while not playing this year he would help this team by providing a legit big to practice against.

SJU has not had a couple of guys commit at some time in recent memory. Sense that may change with Mack & Steere soon.

Simon and Clark? Kind of similar I guess

Mack comes Sunday after his game Saturday.

I don't want to be a downer here but both Steere and Mack have attended many schools already. Mack was at SFA then Hutchinson CC(I believe) then Salt Lake CC and Steere attended more then one high school( I think 4?) and then N.C. State for a game. This may work out but its not a Simon/Clark situation who were transferring from Arizona and Michigan State to get more playing time. This may be the new normal but it is still a risky game. Lovett had a similar trajectory.

Would think, as Moose noted, they try to get him ready to play at beginning of 19-20 season since he only played one game this year. Suspect he could enroll here in January & pay own way that semester. We’ll see, just conjecture get.

December 2019 as soon as first semester ends. Unless staff can argue that one game does not a semester make.

We don't see him in January 2019 unless you have access to practice, though.

Honestly, this is where Matt kills it... adding two big needs with talented juco Pg and a big man would go a LONG way to transition into next year. Let’s get these guys and maybe grab some high schoolers in the spring. We need to have a program that continuously re-loads, and doesn’t take massive downturns every other year. This kid can really play.

Would be great if we could get him for second semester next season. Don’t see how they could pull it off sooner, but who knows... Maybe staff can fugazi something. Heading into next season with both Keita and Steere would be a big boost for our inside game...

They need to do much better than Mack and Steere along with Wright and Caraher eligible to be relevant next season assuming they take the roster hits next year we all anticipate.

How did this kid even find his way to us? Did we even recruit him the first time around? Wondering if he saw the Heron waiver come through and was attracted to our skills in that regard - meaning he's expecting us to get him cleared for the start of next year even though he played a game.

Agree. My sense is if they make the “Dance” and impress this season, Precious will be very much in play. Let’s see how that goes. Never easy.

Very possibly. Besides Matt checking out every transfer he can find, we must be getting the reputation of being Transfer U as 8 of our 13 players are transfers of some kind. If we win I don't care but it might be a turnoff to a high school recruit.

“Steere and Caraher both attended Wesleyan Christian in 2016-17, and Steere transferred to Northwood Temple Academy after that season before NC State. Steere had previously played at the Carlisle School in Virginia. He is also the son of bodybuilder Noah Steere.

Ian Steere will need to finish his semester at NC State to remain eligible, and would try to transfer in December for the Spring semester; he would need to pay his own way for those months until another scholarship comes off the books (teams are limited to 13, and the Red Storm are at the limit).” Full piece;
