Homeland And All Things Maher

Had Southern. Not sure if I’ve had the others. Pretty much only order pumpkin now at Burgerology because of the caramel rim

Literally any of my grinds that go there just tell the bartender “ give me the pumpkin ale that mike Maher drinks “ 😀 and you might get a discount 😀😀😀😀
Even though you’re practically a legend at this point, when I was bartending in a brewery one of my biggest pet peeves was rimming a glass. I did it of course, you know, the customer is always right and that kinda stuff, but it went against my soul as a wannabe beer purist. Haha @mjmaherjr put a bit of an edit in, you’re too quick.

the whole rimming thing, one wants to gag.....

If you're drinking a beer with pumpkin in it and a caramel rim you're having desert.
I think pumpkin beer without the rim is dessert enough. I really have to be in the mood for anything pumpkin-related.

If I’m looking for a fall, cooler weather, inspired brew I’ll go for an Oktoberfest or a Märzen or, if I’m looking to go big an imperial stout or a Baltic porter ala Zyweic.

All of you are mindless sheeple being led astray by Big Pumpkin.

Be like Sally. Take the seeds out of your eyes.

You just reminded me of something. A long time ago maybe up till 10 years ago Nat and I used to throw an International Beer and Wine Festival at our house each year. We cater the Peruvian food everyone brings beer or wine from outside the US. That would have been right in your wheelhouse

sorry MJMJr, keep pumpkin in my pie but out of my beer. Rim or no rim.

As cooler weather comes upon us, higher ABV IPAs, stouts (barrel aged mostly) and brown ales or porters, come to mind.

Then there's always, single malt scotches and small batch bourbons.

What I love about beer is that you can have one of the world's best - I mean one of the most highly-rated beverages on earth as complex, historic and deftly crafted as any wine - and it'll only set you back $6 to $7.

God bless those monks.

Have you ever had the Westvleteren 12?

Good shout on the brown ales, a style often forgotten. Being a bit of a snob, I love the Fox Farm Scatter and the Tree House Bear. I used to love Bell’s Best Brown but I can’t find that anywhere anymore.

I just picked up a Redwood Empire Lost Monarch, which is a rye/straight bourbon blend and it is delicious. About $30-35 a bottle, well worth it, so smooth, but still so complex. Rye is extra nice in it.

When I was in Australia a number of years ago, I got to try the stuff the Aussies don't send us. They a glad to get rid of the Foster's Lager (the Blue Oil Can). More favor VB (Victoria Bitter) or 4X. Funniest sight was going into a package store for some beer to bring to a mate's house and seeing the Import Section which had such "wonderful" choices including out front--Bud and PBJ. 🙃 🙃 🙃

When Nat and I were in Belfast we hit up a bar there and some of the Irish we ended up becoming friends with were drinking coors light drafts 😀 Blew my mind away

Sometimes I love drinking a Coors, a Bud, PBR or some other light tasting big name beer.

They’re refreshing as hell especially on a hot summer day.

And they’re a nostalgia hit, memories of childhood taking a sip from dad’s can.
