Homeland And All Things Maher

I happened on an old favorite, that might be the greatest TV series of all time:
NYPD Blue. Still has chops. The acting is great, the stories are engaging. Dennis Franz carried the show through 12 seasons.

I remember being in my dorm gathered around a TV to watch the first episode because it was "going to push the boundaries of network TV" which meant boobies to us.

Alas, we were disappointed.

Any suggestions on which of Ian Fleming's Bond books I should read first?

Wanted to tackle him for some time and I've been on a John le Carre kick recently so here I am.

I always like to start those type of books, with a continuing character, from the first book. I think Casino Royale was the first. You can read the book and check out the films to see how they differ.
If you are looking for a good spy series to read, try Daniel Silva's series with the hero Gabriel Allon. Got me hooked and I am working my way through the whole series--25+ books. Gabriel Allon is the main protagonist in Daniel Silva's thriller and espionage series that focuses on Israeli intelligence. Allon is a spy and an art restorer, and I got an education about some great artwork.

Just watched the first Episode of Task on Max, by creator of Mare of East Town. Liked it and liked Mark Ruffalo, so far, it releases serially, so no bingeing yet.

I was a big fan of Mare, loved Kate Winslet and Jean Smart (played her smart ass mom).

Anybody else watch it?

Yes. Was an interesting show? I was hoping for a season 2.

Yes - I liked it. I have to watch the second episode.

If you love Pumpkin Ale like I do the best one IMO is served at Burgerology in Huntington. They do a caramel sugar rim. Elysian Night Owl is my favorite on tap
Ever try the Southern Tier PUMPKING?

or ShipYard PUMPKINHED?

Harpoon does two of them Dunkin' Pumpkin and Harpoon UFO Pumpkin

I'm not a pumpkin beer guy myself, but daughter who likes craft beers likes those.

Not a big pumpkin ale guy either but Southern Tier makes some very good beers; sometimes pick up their 15 pack of various IPAs when they have it at the local supermarket.

Had Southern. Not sure if I’ve had the others. Pretty much only order pumpkin now at Burgerology because of the caramel rim

Literally any of my grinds that go there just tell the bartender “ give me the pumpkin ale that mike Maher drinks “ 😀 and you might get a discount 😀😀😀😀

I have read all of the Ian Fleming James Bond series and read them in order. If you finish them and are still interested in James, the estate of Fleming had Anthony Horowitz write a few books on him and I enjoyed them also. You were given correct info on Fleming's Bond initial novel, Casino Royale.

If you are enjoying the fiction novels regarding spies, you may want to look into non-fiction WW2 spy stories involving US-OSS such a A Woman of No Importance (Virginia Hall has been honored by the CIA) about the US's best spy or stories about the SOE such as Gubbins and the SOE which also references many other non-fiction sources
