Holy Cross

These games are almost deisgned to be ugly. It's a young team that has to learn to play defense in a system, and learn offensive sets. The objective isn't to win by as much as possible in the pre-season, but to learn to play in a system that will yield success in the Big East season.

Keep in mind that most guys who haven't play D1 basketball before has mostly thrived in HS and prep schools on their athletic ability. Once at D1, only the very best players get by on talent alone, and the rest have to learn to play in a system and refine their defensive skills like never before. Just about every guy on the roster could score in HS, now many of them will be role players with guys like Sampson and Harrison scoring the bulk of points conisstently.

We have a long way to go, and the team is learning.

Everyone should read this post before watching these early season games.

Garrett with 2 missed dunks...embarrassing.

Joe- he was fouled on the 2nd one- give him a break pal.

An easy way to post pictures is to go to tinypic.com. Make sure the picture is saved on your computer, then upload it to the site (no account needed). After that, it will give you multiple links one of them says "Forums and Message Boards" so you copy and paste the link here and done!

I am, but I live 40 miles east of the Queens campus.

Careless plays...2 missed dunks, a missed layup, stepping out of bounds, being too submissive not attacking the rim, etc. Should be 60-46 right now.
Alum class of '76. Live 35 miles east of St J's. Used to spend the whole day at the school if there was a week day night came. couldn't even concentrate in class all day looking forward to the game. Guess those extra 5 miles are the difference, huh?

I'm sorry to jump in here and perhaps I'm misunderstanding your post, but I don't think Joe3 deserved that. Especially when this board seems to recently come back down to some level of civility. While many on this board have questioned the content of his posts - irritating many (and myself included sometimes) - no one has ever questioned his enthusiasm for the team. Maybe he has a term paper he has to work on or he didn't have a working car. Just sayin' it would be nice to keep this board civil... Thanks.

I haven't met a person who doesn't mind driving as much as myself. At work (20 miles away) people think I'm coming from another country. I always laugh and say it's not far at all...I really don't consider anything about 1 hour or less away driving to be far assuming it's not for groceries or something trivial. It's actually not me that thinks I'm far, it's everyone else I talk to. I always get made fun of by Nassau people for being "way out East" which honestly pisses me off because I must hear it at least a few times every week when people ask where I'm from at work. So it's actually nice to hear someone imply 40 miles is not that far a drive. I would agree, in fact I drive to the Queens campus all the time. I can't make every game though as much as I wish I could. I work 3 days a week, and go to grad school full time. I have Practicum at one school, I have an internship in another, and I have to test 6 students and write detailed reports for each in addition to all my other classes. Finals are also coming up. I have been extremely busy. I was also in Long Beach the other day volunteering for Sandy victims. So, driving a bit is not something I mind I actually enjoy it assuming traffic isn't awful. I don't make a lot right now and my car takes $50 to fill up so I can't just drive 40 miles each way then go to work 20 miles each way 3x a week like it's nothing. It's expensive and since I can only work 3 days a week, $210 biweekly is not enough to get gas, get food, get drinks at bars, and go to tons of games on top of that. If anything people think I'm a bit crazy for being so into SJ lol. In my room I have a SJ jersey hanging up, an SJ banner, a Lavin bobblehead, etc. In my classes it's 90% women who couldn't care less about basketball. The remaining guys don't care either. So, it's a bit easier said than done sometimes.

By the way, random but Marist beat Vanderbilt 50-33 lol. This comes 1 day after losing by about 40 to WVU. Marist shot an ugly 36% and Vandy shot an absurd 23%! What an embarrassing game for the SEC.

Wow...gotta love Balamou

"I know one thing," Balamou said, "when you play hard, that is 90 percent of getting coach to let you play. Just be quiet and play."

Was that a jab at someone?

IMO he was talking about himself and how he approached things, as well as Lavin rewarding hard work.
I did not get to see most of the HC game, did Balamou play any D against HC's point guard? Thanks in advance.

Emoticons aren't working for me either by clicking them. However if you roll over them they will give the the list of characters you can type to get the emoticon to show up. :ninja:
