Hardship Waivers

Trae Burhow, a transfer guard from Pepperdine, was granted a hardship waiver to play at University of Northern Iowa this season. It’s clear from the article that University compliance officials can materially help the student-athlete’s prospects of securing a waiver in legit situations. Hopefully SJU has done its part in pushing forward Heron’s application. Even with passage of time (and die-hard fans’ respective anxiety), haven’t seen any information that would make me think otherwise.
It’s now my understanding that it’s not looking good for MH’s waiver. Go figure with this bunch.
What?!?
A credible ‘source?!?
Would totally stun me.
Happy? Paultz?

Would be unbelievable (and very believable) if true.
Have not heard that.

Would be totally against the grain, against the overwhelming ‘trend’ in the transfer rule. Doesn’t sound right, even if St. John’s is on the hook.
I mean, with widespread speculation that even the ‘sit-out’ rule may go by the boards (probably GPA-scale, that Mustapha would likely qualify for!), this makes no sense.
Let’s hope.

That's odd because Mustapha seems very confident.

I heard this from my father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.

He’s always been wrong. ;)

I asked Chris the very same question Thursday night, and he answered that there's nothing new or negative to report. Joe Oliva chimed in half jokingly that should it be denied they would take it to the Supreme Court if necessary.

There IS some talk that Herons mpm is doing better lately and this may be where this is coming from.

Using common sense you would think the determining factor would be his mom's condition and prognosis at the time of the decision to transfer. If his mom has improved that is very good news as that is much more important than the waiver.

That was the position that was coveyed to me, that at the time of the waiver application she was very sick so you make a lot of sense.

On that subject, CM doesn't get bent out of shape and the what ifs.

I once asked Lavin at a reception before our ncaa game in Charlotte how D'Angelo was feeling. He then went on for about 5 minutes explaining how good that team would have been if D,'Angelo was healthy and Sampson and Harkless stayed.

When asked how good sju would have been last season had Lovett stayed and was healthy, and chris is quick to point out that injuries are part of the game.

So are ncaa decisions somewhat out of your hands.

Once you have done everything in your power to make sure you've given yourself a maximum chance of success on a program defining issue like this, yes it is out of your hands. Hopefully that is the case here. Seems like in this case, we should be successfull on the facts so long as we did our best.

Totally agree Bama & Beast, that Mustapha mom's condition is the only thing that matters for the family and word that she is improving is wonderful news for them.
Away from that, how the NCAA ultimately rules, well it'll be what it'll be.
Funny, if Mustapha has to sit out, the team will still be loaded--and 'ready', going up against Mustapha in practice!
And if that's the case, I would expect him to play in the 2019-20 season.
Mustapha, Simon, Figueroa, Dixon, Keita, et al., would form a nice nucleus that would be attractive to 1 - 2 top incoming recruits.

Like that time he told Simone that he saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors.

This morning I heard Mullin & staff remain very optimistic. We’ll see.

Great ‘news’. Thanks much Paultz. I’m staying with 10/10 as the date for a favorable decision.
