I recall reading here and several other places that NIL donations weren’t tax deductible.
 
Anybody in the raising funds business knows you have to put up with certain unpleasant things from your major donors or you shouldn’t be in the business. The people responsible for banishing Repole some years ago should no longer have any say about men’s basketball.
Repole is not a descendent of a smart individual like Woody Johnson or John Mara. He is a brilliant businessman who is willing to support the school and should be catered to and if you can’t do that then get out. You don’t have to let him pick the coach but you have to have the skills to appease him without losing him. That is fund raising and it is obvious SJU has been unable to perform even miserably over the years in that endeavor,
Keep your ,in this case rare major donor happy.

100% Repole’s contribution is coming via No Bull. The players are being used as influencers, advocates, spokespeople, etc. Its a marketing expense.

Now where it gets hard for me, is to believe that Repole/No Bull is contributing half of our NIL. If true, that means he is investing about $2-3MM. That is a lot of money for players who have limited social media reach and ‘influence’. Deivon on IG has 80k followers (highest on team) compared to say a Flagg from Duke who has 900k and has national reach. At the end of the day marketing needs to show results. So unless I’m missing something I just don’t see the ROI for No Bull…

All that said, if the ROI is to make Repole feel good about SJU, then you can throw everything I just said out the window.

We're lucky that Repole already has a net worth of 1.6 billion dollars. So if he's using 3 million dollars, from the NoBull marketing budget that then becomes deductible as a marketing expense, that is only 0.18% of his net worth.

I can absolutely believe, for him, the happiness of seeing STJ do well + his public persona getting bolstered + his ego getting massaged by all of us, is an easy ROI equation. Frankly wouldn't be surprised if it goes up.

His solid relationship with Pitino helps a “tad” too. I’m well past “Repolegate” (w his radio rip of SJU administration) and can’t be happier to have him in our corner, when ability to compete is more tied than ever to $$$$. I realize we have other long time donors supporting the program, but Repole is very media savvy. Yes, he may be arrogant, as is Rick at times, but Shanley realizes how mega helpful these two are and I trust his judgment implicitly. Without Repole & Pitino, I suspect the program would be treading water at best.

Sal I say this as knowing you and JSJ and both you guys are more of a respect the process guys. I absolutely respect that. You guys are more do for the good of things then get noticed

Oetsonslly I’d rather be humble but I couldn’t be happier for hat reoole blew things up. Joao my opinion. But the school needed a ground breaking cleanse no after Rick got hired. Again in in your shows about keeping things in house but not in this 1 case. Hope that makes sense
