Greg W Enters Portal

Three guys left from last year's team and one is testing NBA draft waters. Hard to root for this kind of stuff, at least for me. I'm glad baseball starts tomorrow.

I didn't see such a mass exodus coming.  You would think this is a DePaul situation, but it isn't.  CMA and Cragg and the administration are well on the way to developing a sustainable identity and program going forward.  And GW and Earlington seemed to have bought in.  But I guess you never know.....

In the words of the great M. Ray Richardson "the ship be sinking".

Not cma’s recruit.  Lots of injuries.  I was hoping for a good senior season but good luck to him.

So Amar's streak of being the last four year player at SJU (recruited all the way back to Lavin) continues. Nice program being built!

Zach B just tweeted that there  "There was a jealousy factor, I'm told, of the attention the New York guys received with certain players who have left St. John's. #sjubb   Not a good look

Lindor. deGrom, Judge and Torres in portal.

When this whole thing shakes out, you will all see that the programs and lower levels these transfers land at, you will then realize that most of them were not big losses.

Lets see what players CMA brings in before passing judgement.

I don’t get it.  All these guys leaving.  At what point does CMA accept responsibility?
Maybe he isn’t the kind old fatherly guy we have been led to believe.

Although, it's not a good look, I'm not gonna quickly jump to conclusions considering the amount of players transferring in college basketball.

Let's see what happens when the smoke clears which is similarly to what billthetruth alluded to above.

Our next hire should be a full time psychologist.  Every team should carry one.  These kids nowadays are incredibly sensitive and soft.

I get the wait and see thing. But the new deal with college teams is if it is a real good team great. If not, wake us if you can get one the next year. Honestly most fans under 50 already look at it that way, it's only the rest of us who needed to finally get hit over the head hard enough to understand the new normal.

On the contrary, I think we’ll see how much we took Greg for granted. Excited for smith, but that a  loss IMO. And it wasn’t an either/or.

Maybe just maybe some of these guys are not made for the tough practices that CMA runs and what is expected from them on a daily basis. Ewing seems to run his program with the old school JT rules and similar intense daily practices. Some guys are just not cut out for strict rules. If that is case I am glad we are bringing in 7 new guys. Maybe we will not get killed by DePaul at home again with NCAA tournament on the line.

There is a reason CMA has never had a losing season and why he will not next year when everything settles

I don't see any correlation with him being a fatherly figure.  These were not his recruits.

Greg and Marcellus could have left in April of 19 when CMA was hired.  And then we would have recruited more McGriff's than Julian's and likely had a horrible year 1.  They stuck around and gave it a shot and now they are entering the last or last 2 years of their college tenure depending on their ambitions beyond and want to try something else.  I thank them for the past 2 years under CMA.  I wish them luck elsewhere.  And for CMA he can go out and recruit with 2 above 500 years under his belt and not 1 or 2 disaster years as he started his time at SJU.

CMA also seems like the person who is going to beg a player to stay.  Wouldn't surprise me if he said Thank you for your service and kept it moving.
