Greatest regular season win ever?

I know this is regular season win thread but the best win this fanbase will witness is going to be on April 7th in San Antonio!! Until next year that is!!
Sounds like you bought a pair of scissors already. :)

Dreaming when there is a glimmer of hope is much better than unrealistic optimism.

Still hurts. I’m biased obviously, but that team was ready to go on a run. Dingle had fully turned it around, the ncaa tournament field last year was weak… I still think we get to second weekend with just a half decent draw
To not atleast play Virginia in the play-in game was criminal.

Strongly disagree. I thought our KPI (73?) was accurate. We couldn’t defend and it was every man for himself on offense. I could not wait for season 2 so we could play some Pitino style defense.

6-1 down the stretch, only team in March to give UConn (arguably one of the best college teams ever) a real test. There were defensive struggles but we were averaging 90 (90!) points a game once we turned things around. We had enough firepower to go on a run with how hot the team was. March a lot of the time comes down to who is hot at the right time, and we were. It just took playing an all time college team to stop us in our tracks.

Pitino agrees too, he brings it up all the time

Pitino never tells the truth😂 He feels bad that his hatred of that team made national news. In February he said he never had so little fun coaching in his life. It wasn’t November when he said that.

UConn didn’t care about us at all. You know how hard it must be for them to get up for a game against us in the middle of 3 games in 3 days? They just lost to Seton Hall for similar reasons.

Who did that team beat last year? Was it just one win against a ranked team?

Many great wins already mentioned. A great win I witnessed at the Capital Center was in Mullin's junior year, when we beat eventual national champ G'town . Mullin was spectacular, despite being mugged by Ewing and others.

Huge win for sure yesterday. One of the best in a long time. This team would have to make it to San Antonio for this to be considered best regular season conference game. Before that we would have to win the Big East outright. Something we have only done once (1985). We did share the regular season title four other times (1980, 1983, 1986, and 1992).

For me, the 1985 game in Landover stands alone. Although it was a battle of No.3 vs No.1, the Hoyas were favored by 10 points. Defending champs and riding a 29 game winning streak. National TV with Brent Musburger and Billy Packer on the call for CBS.

Dominating the first 35 minutes and hanging on for dear life the rest of the way. Just like that, 29 game winning streak snapped and a No.1 ranking for 5 weeks. A Sports Illustrated cover to celebrate the victory. Ironically the last Hoyas loss was to St. John’s at the Cap Centre the prior season.

Back to the current team which has been special to date. 3 wins away from breaking the school record for Big East regular season victories. Held by, yes the 1984-85 team. Here’s hoping to revisit if yesterday can indeed be in the discussion for the greatest regular season win in conference play.
This is by far, the best for me. But hey, I've only been following the team since 1975:)

I disagree completely. UConn was way into that game in the BET. High intensity, they responded to our runs with a ton of emotion.

Comparing last years UConn to this years is… come on marillac. Enough

The team was flawed but Rick constantly says by the end of the year we were a great basketball team. I watched all the games and happen to agree. The tournament was so weak last year, with a good draw we had the firepower to do something

Is there a way to figure out what our KPI was 2nd half of year ? We were a completely different team at end of year. Obviously argument can be made we didn't deserve to be in but we we're absolutely different team end of year

I'm not comparing last year's Uconn team to this year -- what am I Mullin's Revenge? 😆 But SH is historically bad...we weren't last year. Uconn is a top 25 caliber team this year...they should never lose to a team as bad as SH. It's really hard to get up for some games. I don't think we ever threatened Uconn once in the second half of any of our games. They big brothered us as we have done to teams this year. They knew whatever we dd they could score at will on us and win. I don't even think we were a good team...forget great.

Everybody we play this year can get up to play us...so we have to beat the best versions of everyone.

I felt we were the same team all year long. There was no chemistry. No defense. We just rebounded everything and had guys who could make shots on their own.

We did win one against them that year. Not the sweater game.
I know, I was there and Beast mentioned it too. Clock ran out just in time or we would have probably lost.

Shaky final minute, a few missed throws, Coach taking the ball out of Jim Burr's hands on the sidelines during a change of possession (!). Burr just smiled.

And in those days, no clock stoppages after a made basket. Georgetown scored with 5 seconds to go to get to 66-65. We had a T/O but Mullin takes it out, looks at the clock then throws it in just as the clock hit zero.

From the NY Times, when they actually had a sportsection and not just articles from The Athletic (which I do enjoy):

"Georgetown almost pulled out the victory. After Mullin's dunk put the Redmen ahead by 57-39 with 10:46 left, Georgetown went on a 10-2 spurt, beginning with a basket by Martin and ending with two free throws by Ewing in response to a jumper by Mullin.

After Michael Jackson's layup pulled the Hoyas to 66-65 with five seconds left in the game, Mullin, rather than risk an interception on an inbounds pass and knowing that he had five seconds in which to inbound the ball, held onto it and then threw the pass as time expired. In the final minute of the game Mullin also made three free throws and stole a pass from Jackson with 22 seconds left."

Completely agree. 100%.

Feb 26th, 2000 is probably the most satisfying regular season win for me. Beating Duke in Cameron with how good of a team we had was awesome.

Jan 15, 2000 is the 2nd most appreciated regular season win. Beating UConn at Gample the arrogance of UConn fans, My brother was at the game sitting in the UConn student section just driving them crazy.

The 84-85 and 85-86 seasons were awesome 8-1 verse top 25 teams in 84-85 going into UCLA and crushing them and Reggie Miller. in 86 I loved the win at the Cap center vs Georgetown.

So man good games but the 1999-2000 team I was locked in with them.
