I seriously would love to hear Larry Brown's pitch to recruits. Does he seriously tell these kids he will be there for their entire career?
to the potential one and done's he might :)

GOODLUCK OKONOBOH - 2014 - C - MASS RIVALS SUMMER 6-9 - WILBRAHAM MONSON - BOSTON, MA Okonoboh had a really solid game by using his length, size and athleticism to make plays. The 6-9 post prospect got up and down the floor, was really strong on the both the offensive and defensive glass, and finished plays inside off the catch, inlcuding a couple plays he got the basket and ended up at the line. Okonoboh showed off his leaping ability late in the second half with a big-time dunk on the fast break. The Mass Rivals star has a very high ceiling with a lot of room to grow in his game. - See more at:http://www.ny2lasports.com/article_one.aspx?articleid=1496#sthash.pNM0l60e.dpuf

@BLUEChip_Miller: 2014 shot blocking machine Goodluck Okonoboh (@Goodlucko_12) has been named a member of the Elite24 roster.

"Class of 2014 forward Goodluck Okonoboh is about to take the next step in his recruitment.
A source close to the Wilbraham and Monson (Mass.) senior told Inside the Hall Sunday evening that Okonoboh will trim his list of schools to “no more than five” in the next few days and that there is a “real good possibility” Indiana will be on that list.
After Okonoboh shortens his list, he will take official visits this fall with the expectation of making his decision by the early signing period in November.
Okonoboh is known to be close friends with IU freshman Noah Vonleh, as the two were AAU teammates on Mass Rivals. Since the time he received a scholarship offer from the Hoosiers in April, Okonoboh has spoken with Vonleh about potentially joining forces in Bloomington.
“He’s always in my ear about IU,” Okonoboh said to a group of reporters in July. “The most humble kid you’ll ever meet. He’s one of the top players in the country, but he’s just a great kid. He knows he doesn’t have to talk to me like anybody else would talk to me. We just keep it real with each other.”
“I don’t know how that couldn’t help,” Vin Pastore, Okonoboh’s AAU coach, told Inside the Hall in July. “So I would say the answer to that would be yes (that it helps). Goodluck is his own guy, but when you have a friend that’s already somewhere else and doing well already …”
Okonoboh also has mentioned that finding a program that will help him grow as a player and as a person is a priority.
Indiana seems to fit both criteria with its recent success in the 2013 NBA Draft and a reputation for graduating players early.
“It’s a developmental program. Was Victor Oladipo even top 100? Now look at him, the No. 2 pick in the draft,” Okonoboh said. “It just shows you from a developmental standpoint, that Indiana is good.”
At 6-foot-9 and 220 pounds, Okonoboh is regarded as one of the top shot-blockers in the 2014 class. ESPN.com ranks him as the 19th best recruit in the country, and he has offers from Connecticut, Duke, Florida, Maryland and Louisville, among others."

Not surprised at all that we didn't make the cut.

Our recruiting targets for 2014 are disappearing fast. I hope Lavin has something up his sleeve. Maybe he can find some European players while he's over there.

One could be concerned about the # of recruits on the SJU list- and seemingly getting smaller by the day - but IMHO if we win and play two or more games in the tourny, we will have all the recruits we want.

That is if there are any high level recruits left. He needs to come in with a front court stud.

Oddly enough I think Obekpa being there next year contributed to that decision as well. Will be a good get for someone to add next season.

Would not mind us being in the conversation for this guy again. I know we have Owens coming in next year but this kid would have to sit out next year and then with jones graduating would be a nice upgrade.

Front court of Okonboh, Owens, Sima and Yakwe would be a good look at the PF and C spot.

So a kid like this, for example, can transfer now, sit out the spring semester, sit out the fall semester, and then play as a second semester junior with new team.
Or
He could play out the whole year, transfer to a new school, sit out a year, and then have a full two years to play.

Transferring mid season loses kids a full year.

Interesting but far from my first choice. Thrilled with Sima and Owens seems like a real find. Yakwe , Williams , Ellison perhaps Bashir and Richard F up front are great possibilities. Save the ship for 2017 or a fifth year player that suits our needs. Still also have Amar and CJ.
A lot of possibilities. No need to gamble or reach unless it suits Coach's strategy.

Unless my math is wrong, from a basketball perspective he losses the first semester of his junior year. Which doesn't really amount to a whole lot if a kid wants out. So instead of having 2 years of eligibility remaining, he has a 1 1/2 years. But he doesn't have to sit out an entire year of ball.
