My take is as 112 stated, that the staff did right by him giving him a scholarship, room, board, education and professional rehab. They could have dumped him when he had what professionals claim is a sometimes career ending injury. Good for him for A) committing early. If I recall correctly he committed early BEFORE he was injured. B ) working on it to a point where he might actually play ball again at a high level. And good for the staff for sticking with him when they did not have to.
I have seen it repeated here multiple times that he was a "big" when this was never the case. But I don't think anyone was expecting him to do much if anything this season and I for one was not expecting him to make a dent on the glaring deficiencies in interior play. So using this situation as another excuse to criticize Mullin and Co. is not to be taken seriously. I don't know if he was nudged out as common wisdom says or that his advisors told him to leave but in either case I don't believe that it was because the staff was negligent or that he or his handlers had lost faith in the staff.
