Get Ready to Welcome Simon & Clark

That is excellent news if we get them. I trust that this is where CM and staff could have a big impact getting the most out of these guys.

SJU will have a roster of ten players next year in their first, second or third year with an eligible transfer most likely. Playing time will not be a pleasant experience for some.
In addition they will be practicing with two players who we can probably count on to play meaningful minutes the next year and one recruit who will be in the same situation which means minutes will be even harder to come by the 17-18 season.
IMO there will be at least two transfers this time next year if not by Dec.
. Can we at least let this play out a little before predicting transfers, etc.? Geez..

If all of this comes to pass our roster of scholarship players would look like this:

Federico Mussini SG/PG Soph 6’ 1” 155
Kassoum Yakwe PF Soph 6’ 7” 200
Yankuba Sima C Soph 6’ 11” 205
Malik Ellison SG/SF Soph 6’ 6” 200
Darien Williams SF/PF Jr. 6’ 8” 230
Bashir Ahmed SF Jr. 6’ 7” 200
Tariq Owens PF/C Soph 6’ 10” 190
Marcus Lovett PG Fresh 6’ 1” 165
Shamorie Ponds SG/PG Fresh 6’ 1” 180
Richard Freudenberg SF/PF Fresh 6’ 8” 190
Anthony Livingston PF Senior 6’ 8” 240
Marvin Clark Jr. SF JR. 2017 6’ 6” 225
Justin Simon PG SOPH 2017 6’ 5” 185

It looks like we will be stronger next year based on the experience of our four freshman and some good talent coming in. Then in two years we will have some more talent coming in with some significant experience returning. Hopefully the staff can get this group to grow together and develop a winning culture.

I like it. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Anything with St. John's is usually day to day!

So this means we have 1 open scholarship for '17 (with or without Livingston). Does that mean we won't be offering Kostas a scholarship?

I think we would end up having 2-3 open spots for '17 class with possibility of kids transferring out. I would be fine with that, considering the quality of kids we are recruiting.

Livingston would be the 3rd and final ship giving for 16, so we'd have no ships 16. I think Kostas is the backup plan.

If Livingston comes he'll only play one year, so that's 1 ship for next year. If Williams can't play next year then maybe he'll leave. If Mussina don't improve from last year, then he might leave.
If he don't improve defensively, and in other areas then he'll be one of the vlast off the bench by February.
Got to show improvement from your first year to your second year, especially late 2nd year.

That would be 3 ships for 17.

If staff wants and can get both Livingston and Greek there will be room.

We got 3 ships as of now, so if Clark, Simon, and Livingston come we can still get Kostas?
Then probably Williams transfers with his bad shoulders I'd guess. All of the freshmen should get a chance to show if they can improve in the sophmore year.
If they get Kostas then i'd red shirt him while he works on gaining pounds and muscle.

If he comes and if red shirted, could he practice next year, or nothing with the team at all?

@CoachMatic: " Great weekend. The storm is coming! You've been warned". #prideofnewyork

This staff is a real breath of fresh air
Imagine having guys that really work at recruiting
That hasn't been the case at St John's for more years than I can remember

Even better I had read that Freudenberg is 6'9" without shoes, making him closer to 6'10" on the court. Our size and more importantly length is nice to have too..

Under the topic "Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due"
Could ANY head coach and staff have done BETTER (perhaps as good) than Chris Mullin & Co. over a mere year April 2015- April 2016 given the absence of talent and the 11th hour lack of time to recruit.
Perspective.
We are fortunate for what we have, what has transpired, and for the staff we have in place.
Thanks for all the preceding posts and updates.
A lot of positive movement going down.

Is Matt great or what Mr. P???
Determined!
Faithful!
Driven!
Another gem on our side - our gain Iowa State's loss.
A big loss.
A big gain.

I would really like the Livingston kid for next year.
As for the other two anytime you can get a kid from Mich ST and Arizona to come to ST John's it is a good get. I don't care if they were the 12th man on each team.

Are we targeting anyone else eligible to play next year that we do not currently have onboard? :eek:hmy:

Livingston and Kostas only possibilities.

We aren't getting Charlie Moore.

Are you sure on Charlie Moore? I could have sworn Moose said we have a chance.
