@Georgetown, Wed., Feb. 21, 7p, FS-1

Am I the only fool who is just happy that we won? We know the issues with this team and it will not cure itself until we have a new roster in 2024-25. Sitting here complaining that we didn't win by enough or that we blew a lead takes the little joy that there is out of winning. I swear, some of you would find the negatives in a Final Four appearance somehow.

Chill and accept this team for what it is and root. They haven't let the air out of the basketballs just yet for the season. Maybe 40+ years of disappointments with this program has finally won and did me in? Whatever the case, on to the next game.

Nope. I've already got a few people going to Creighton on Sunday, and telling myself that the monkey is off our team's back + Dingle's going to have a big game. More than fair to call me a sucker.

I was impressed with Gtowns freshman pg. That kid could be the next colin gillespe. Their freshman big was decent too.

With the portal, whos know who sticks around but those 2 should be solid big east players for the next 3 years.
I thought the exact same thing . Brambaugh and Alexander , the big kid can play and , like you said, they are only Freshman .

Years ago , I thought Ewing had put together a dynamite guard combo in McClung and Akingo but , it didn’t happen .

And let us not forget what Repole has been saying! Things are looking VERY good for this program. Maybe we are both suckers?!

Like Jenkins last night towards the end of the game when things were getting very dicey. He dribbles into traffic, I think 3 defenders, travels (no call), and let's them tie the ball up by putting it right in the defenders' face/hands. Smooth move that was.

Jenkins, though Marillac, did make up for it down the stretch when he hit a dagger of a leaner to put us back up by two scores.
Play was even worse than that because before he hit the three defenders Dingle had slid to his left and was wide open, and Jenkins continued to dribble into a brick wall, terrible play. Jenkins has made some big plays, like the big step back with the shot clock a factor but the one you describe was certainly not one of them.

I saw that too but , thought one or the other G’Town defenders had fouled him , instead of a jump ball and possession to the Hoyas . A home Town whistle on that one , I think

Dan Hurley 16-17 Uconn first year, and in his apology Pitino, compares us favorably with Providence, Marquette, et al, but says Uconn is "up Here, on another level" above where we can get.

I call B.S., Uconn was not historically a power house. Calhoun took a while but really had them humming, and in Hurley's 3th year Uconn got hot and really rolled right at the end last year and in his 4th year admittedly they are terrific.

BUT, Rick, we can aspire to reach their heights, not Providence/Marquette heights.

Aspirations are one thing, positive steps are another. Before we are national champion contenders first let's finish in the upper tier of our conference, make it to the conference tournament semi-finals, qualify to be one of the the 64 teams in the body of the NCAA tournament and then advance to the round of 32.

Doing these things for the first time in almost a quarter of a century is where we need to land first. Once we can get there, then we can focus on higher aspirations next.

RJ Luis gets a lot of flack on this board and I’m pretty sure I called him Andre Curbelo 2.0 earlier this year.

However, he did do something thing game that I liked. 3 times he had the ball and he could have taken a three point shot as GTown was late on closing out. Now we have to assume that he’s not going to pass the ball (Joel Soriano had more assists to RJ this game than RJ to Joel all season). With the no passing in mind. RJ’s results of those possessions were a) an open lay up b) TO Gtown goes the other way and scores 2 and c) missed layup (he was probably fouled but they were calling it loose). So instead of shooting 3 threes which statistically would have netted +0.6 pts on his 20% make but since we don’t play defense 80% of the time Gtown would have gotten a long rebound and got a layup St. John’s would typically net -4.2 points on those shots. But because of RJ’s better shot selection we netted 0. That’s a win in my book!

I am happy with the win. Did they play well? No. Are there serious flaws? Yes, But I can't imagine the pressure the guys must have felt when the lead was evaporating AGAIN. Hopefully they got that monkey off their back.
There has to be a reason more then "oh they just suck in the 2nd half", I mean they were up 15pnts at Marq, up 19 vs. SHU and lost both.
Were up 21 @ G-Town and they cut that lead to 3.

Is it just mental? Maybe, but they must be somewhat of a damn good team to build those leads.

They gotta do something before the B.E. Tourny, if they somehow fix the 2nd half bs, they could definitely win the freaking B.E. Tournament.

We also had leads vs. uconn at the half in both games.

Gotta do something.
