Ga. Tech game

Alright, let's go now. Down 13

even if they come back and pull this out this 13 minute stretch is just unacceptable garbage

Exactly. There is no explanation for us coming out every game looking like it's game 1 offensively. No flow, everybody either tentative or just chucking something up. No purpose on that side of the court. It's bizarre and it's really hurting us.

I'm not even watching, but if its what I've seen so far, it's a bunch of individuals playing playground basketball not getting any penetration because any team playing us just has to play any kind of a zone defense and make our "shooters" make buckets. Then, once the shot clock is down far enough either Harrison, Sampson or Greene are expected to just magically put the ball in the hoop one way or another.

Not watching, again, but that's just a guess.

Right on time with your comment, as the announcer just pointed out that we have zero - ZERO - assists at the 4 minute timeout. This team just doesn't create for each other.

Just got out first assist, but in transition. Our half court offense doesn't exist.

Wow, forgot there were games this weekend. Thread on yesterday was too long to read. Re this post it's funny because I didn't see the game yesterday and only went by the box score where STJ had 20 assists to Penn State's 10. From the box score alone it would appear that STJ lost yesterday due to undisciplined defense that led to many more fouls and +25 attempts from the FT line and +22 makes for Penn St.

The fact we're down only 7 is a blessing.

Again, I don't undertsand how this team can come out as mentally and physically unprepared than ours. It's mindboggling frankly, and anyone who just thinks this is magically gonna go away in a week, a month, 2 months, and so on is dreaming.
This whole team, coaching staff included, needs to take a nice, long look at this problem, and find the answer to it. Whether it be when they practice, how they practice, what they do pre-game, etc, etc,,,I'm obviously not there so I can't really lend any answers to this gigantic problem except asking about practice and pre-game stuff...Frustrating.

You know how most football teams start a game with a scripted set of plays. That is what we should be doing.

2 problems.

1. We don't know what to do when the play breaks down and
2. Every guy is playing selfishly (D'Lo and Jakarr) at the start of games try to get theirs.

There's a reason why we had 0 assists up until 3 minutes remaining in the first half.

I don't think we come out every game thinking we are the superior team or should win. We come out hoping to win. The Artest, Postell, Bootsy, Barkley team would approach each game thinking they were not going to lose. They mostly followed through on it. I may be living in the past a lil, but winning starts with your attitude. This is squarely on the coaching staff to do

Lavin is just going to have to come to grips with letting Dom foul out each and every game. Because Dom gives us zero on offense.

Just let him pressure the ball carrier for 94 feet and guard the opposing PG. He is an absolute liabilty on offense so might as well just play him to his strengths and let him get 2-3 steals a game and fouling out in the process.

He's just wasting time out there.

He has regressed. He is certainly capable of doing something out there but the coaching staff depends on the 1 and the 2 to provide all our offense. From the top of the perimeter, too, which is head scratching. I'm gonna try to refrain from commenting because ESPN's game tracker is my only way to follow this game.

Let's be honest, one word sums up the first half and probably the season to date-- PATHETIC
no maybe I am wrong, maybe it is two words-- ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC

There is something to be said about both of those points. I think point 2 has a direct correlation to point 1. I think you can add Greene to that list, too.

I like the idea of a more disciplined offense. Script might not be bad idea.
Yeah, its called "team basketball." Even when I played CYO, scripted offenses were normal. High school (JV and Varsity), Summer league (which were a little more looser, nonetheless, more talent) and college level were much the same. Maybe something's changed in the past 20 years, but having some kind of structure on the court is something I would recommend.

I've seen on a couple of occasions or so where a skip pass would give Hooper a wide open look.

But if Sampson or Greene has the ball in their hands, then you can rest assure Hooper won't receive the ball.

Basketball 101.

True, you play the first 5 minutes of every game without a PG on the floor assists will be down.

I can't watch Phil Greene play in this current role anymore. It's a one man offensive stagnation.

I feel bad saying that because it's not his fault. He's played well scoring in a few games for us. But lavin seems to like him at point because he's not opportunistic (conservative, doesn't turn it over) yet opportunism is exactly what we need from that position.
