Former Johnnies Update

@philly Tonight's line up against the Knicks : Tony Wroten, Jakarr Sampson, Mbah a Moute, Nerlens Noel, Henry Sims.

That's a 10-72 lineup.

Is that a line-up to figure out who makes the team and who doesn't? Maybe the coach gives the guys a shot now, and then the as the regular season gets closer, the regular starters see the majority of the minutes in those few pre-season games?

Any other team, and you are 100 percent correct. But with the 76ers, I suspect whomever plays too well will get traded.

Or they are already punting for the lottery where they will draft another 7 footer

Sampson finished 3-4 from the field, 1-2 from three, 2 of 3 from thee point line, 9 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 3 turnovers... 26 minutes of play.

Does anyone know about the Sixers roster construction that he would actually have a shot at making the team?

Article on Sampson, he is making a real run for it:

Excerpt:
"JaKarr has shown some signs of that conversion of a college 'four' man to an NBA 'three' man, and that is always the most difficult conversion," Brown said. "He has shown signs that it is in him to do that. I think that he, at the moment, would be among our better defenders, which is really what we're trying to most pay attention to this year, how we build our program. I think everybody from time to time has stood out, but he recently has caught our eye and is somebody we're excited to develop."

Agree. He might not have made the wisest decision by entering the draft too early, but he's a great kid, a member of the St. John's family, and someone we should all be rooting hard for to make it in the NBA.

Interestingly enough he may be competing with Ron Roberts and Jerami Grant for the final roster spot.

Go get'em Jakarr!

Sounds like NBDL for Sampson. Jerami Grant is the superior talent of the two. Even the Sixers can't screw that up.

I hope I am wrong.

Good for Max

@BrewsterHoops: Brewster alum Max Hooper drilled 6 three-pointers for Oakland in a loss to Eastern Michigan on Monday.

Too bad Lavin couldn't figure out how to use him.

Well that's one opinion. I think Lavin must have failed by not instructing him to make more shots, and not to tighten up when they mattered.

It also hurts when you sit on the bench for 18 straight minutes, and then when you go into the game and miss your first shot, you are pulled and everyone is questioning you as a shooter.

He wasn't anointed. Like anyone else in his position, he had to prove he belonged on the court in big moments. His signature moment for us was getting tied up as we tried to run out the clock. Good luck to him at a suitable level of competition.

I agree that he had to prove that he belonged. However, he was never given the chance to prove that he belonged. Shooters are all about getting into a rhythm, and he was never allowed to get into the flow of a game because as soon as he missed one shot, he was benched.

And I personally believe that siting the entire first half of a game, then going in with 10 seconds left and being asked to make a 3 pointer is a very unrealistic expectation.
