Former Johnnies Update

Not a former Johnnie, but former Johnnie commit Devontay Grace seems to have given up on basketball right after High School(Thomas Jefferson). Commited to us and then to Manhattan. Don't think he ever suited up for Jaspers, or for anyone else for that matter. Seems to be looking to become a rapper.

Isn't that one of Norm's last big recruits that Lavin released immediately upon coming here?

Not sure about this but think he either he or we backed off while Norm was still here. RR was only one of Norm's recruits that I remember Lavin cutting lose, but I could be wrong.

I read with article with an initial bias against Cook, who made a bad decision to leave St. John's after one season. I didn't even like the article's title, which reeked of a stubborn guy who still won't admit he made a mistake. As I read the article, my opinion shifted radically. He's made the most of his life and opportunities over the past 15 years, and appears to be a bright, introspective man. I especially liked his comments about former St. John's players sticking together the way alums of other programs do, encouraging players to come here. As others have pointed out here, there is basketball life beyond the NBA and Cook is a brilliant example of that.

Any updates on Jakarr? Last I heard he was basically cut from the 76ers summer league team.

But I really wanted to see Omar and Hatten in the same backcourt.

Not sure that would have worked. Both men needed to have the ball in their hands to be effective. You saw this past year the problems that can occur when two players of identical skills saw a lot of time together (Orlando and Jakarr).

Playing USA at MSG tonight.

@Joshua_Newman: Easily recognizable names on the Dominican Republic roster: Edgar Sosa, Francisco Garcia, Ronald Ramon, Orlando Sanchez

Thanks for posting, it's great to see Amir succeeding in the Reds organization. His numbers were impressive this past season. Pulling for him to get to the next level!

@philly Tonight's line up against the Knicks : Tony Wroten, Jakarr Sampson, Mbah a Moute, Nerlens Noel, Henry Sims.

That's a 10-72 lineup.

Is that a line-up to figure out who makes the team and who doesn't? Maybe the coach gives the guys a shot now, and then the as the regular season gets closer, the regular starters see the majority of the minutes in those few pre-season games?
