Fordham Game

Dunlap is really starting to annoy me. He has to realize this slow it down does not work for these guys

I didn't mind him doing so against Kentucky. I'm in agreeance with you, otherwise.

He took away our momentum in this game with that madness. We were up 16 and had Fordham buried 'til he decided to play keep-away.

Didn't see the game so I cant really comment but as far a slowing the offense down I would think its a result of literally having no reserves. Hard to run for 40 minutes when you cant get a breather

True! I understand it from that standpoint. Really, I do. I think he goes to it too early and too often. I guess I'd like for him to pick his spots.

I disagree, you don't learn to play time and score unless you practice it and do it when the game calls for it which this one did. We suffer from a lack of experience and depth (obviously), not poor coaching strategy and you don't get experience by NOT doing things. I also think we got in trouble more because we stopped valuing the ball for a stretch of 5-5 possessions after we built the big lead and those soft turnovers got Fordham close and a couple of quick missed shots got them closer. The biggest thing I take from the game was a decided improvement in defensive movement after the early few threes. We protected the basket very well all game and I thought played the perimeter better as the game went on. Basically played with 5 and any win at this level under those circumstances is a good one.

I don't agree, they were having no trouble beating Fordham upcourt. Even the announcers claimed these kids were young enough plus played AAU ball. Some days they played more then one game.

It's not physically but mentally where playing that many minutes wears on a player.

Have you ever seen an AAU game?

To compare the energy and effort put forth in a D1 game versus IS8 is ludicrous.

mentally tired? 18 and 19 year old kids playing a 40 minute game in msg get mentally tired? the fordham freshman didnt seem to get tired at the end. i bet when we play cuse and uconn they wont be mentally tired.

You usually learn to play time and score when you're experienced. Of course, this group is inexperienced, but they can be probed along per Dunlap. I think he went to it (stall ball) too soon today. I have no problem with it, considering our short roster, but choose your spots.

Nevertheless, I don't care how we get wins at this stage. I was a bit disappointed we relinquished a big lead against this Fordham bunch, but I'll take 'em as they come now.

I saw some positives-the defense and rebounding were better, although we didn't get too many steals.

The ball didn't stop moving, which was a problem with Nuri, the offense got bogged down with him. I'm impressed with the level of unselfishness.

The team is plagued with poor shooters. I agree with the posters who said Dunlap took the air out of the ball too soon.

They don't play again till Wednesday-unless Dunlap sensed the guys were running on empty, I wouldn't have gone to the 35 seconds and panic offense, when we were having success running.

1. how would you know? Did you ask them after the game?
2. None of the 3 Ram freshmen played more than 28 minutes and got frequent breaks......The redmen kids had to go 40 minutes.
3. If the Ram frosh were not mentally tired...then they must have been physically tired....since they shot a pitiful .23 % on 6-26 shooting.

Last year with a deep experienced senior filled roster we lost to the mighty Fordham Rams who had but a handful of wins the entire season.
Today with 6 totally inexperienced players, our coach recovering from cancer surgery and a new pg running the offence we won.
Why in the world should we complain?
There will be very few more wins this season ( I hope I am wrong ) and I suggest we enjoy this win and the remaining wins we will obtain.
