Fire Monasch!

I would hire Jim Calhoun. He was on with Francesa and definitely sounded like he has the bug. He could give us 4-5 years and groom a replacement.
I'm dead serious btw.

While the Jesuits at BC might consider it, I don't see the Vincentians agreeing to contract terms.

Here's question for everyone though. Do you think Calhoun would consider coming here? I saw yes.

F that POS Calgoon!

I'd stop being a St. John's fan if they even interviewed Calhoun

That's my sentiment too. I probably wouldn't actually go through with it but that's how I feel thinking about the possibility.

The real reason for the current mess is that our AD does not know how to spot talent. SJU has a "Athletic Director" who knows nothing about athletics!

Why isnt Archie Miller or some other promising guy coaching here?
Monasch is a bum and is not qualified for his position

Yeah our soccer team, baseball and women's basketball teams all suck! you must be great at what you do.

If Monasch were to fire Lavin right now, it would make a clear national statement that SJU is not a 2nd rate program and will not accept mediocrity, we will not accept anything less than an NCAA bid.

But as has been stated by people close to the program. No one in the administration has the BALLS to make the decisions that need to be made.

@TheoRabinowitz let's see what happens, a lot of shit goin on right now and there seems to be no real leader with the administration willing

Jay ‏@JayOn_1 Mar 27
@TheoRabinowitz to pull the trigger on Lav right now

And get who?

Kevin Keats - Associate Head Coach at Louisville is a good prospect to start with.

IMO the problems go beyond Mr. Monash.

Harrington was president for 26+/- years during which he lead a seemingly Howard Hughes recluse life away from the students and their activities with a goal of mediocrity which he only sometimes met. He surrounded himself with a staff that included Chang who allegedly openly sold Honorary Degrees and from whom Harrington accepted expensive gifts and cash. Harrington's ace senior staff also included a former soccer player (whose name I have already forgotten) who had a Bachelor's Degree and who received compensation more than at least one University Dean. The former soccer player reportedly became a co-ower with Harrington of a vacation property. The StJohns Administration has been seemingly lacking from the top down as evidenced by the Assistant Athletic Director a few years back who was fired for selling premium MSG seats to fans of opposing teams.

For all we know Monasch has been "handcuffed" by an indifferent President and Board of Trustees.

Note: Before someone responds with the spin that Harrington was a "great fundraiser" understand that I will present information that indicates that the sums raised during Harrington's tenure approximate the endowment that existed when he assumed the Presidency plus CPI increase.

I don't post much, but I do read the board quite frequently. I am retired in Tucson, Arizona and I ran into Coach Lute Olsen right after the Lavin hire and told him I was a SJU grad ('67) and was very upset we had been in BB purgatory for the past 10 years or so. I asked him what he thought of the hire and he said something to the effect, for what it is worth, good recruiter, can't coach a lick in important game situations.......
You would think that spending 7 years in the booth speaking to all the top coaches about strategy and game situations something would have stuck. I find it hard to believe he is the same coach now he was at UCLA. May not be the best or even a top level tactician but he has to be better right?
Erin Andrews has been on the sidelines for years observing and talking to Saban, Spurrier, Stoops etc and I still wouldn't want her calling plays for my football team.
she was never a coach to begin with.

That may all be true, but basketball is the showcase program here. And he has won.
Notre Dame can win all the women's soccer and swimming championships it wants, but if the football team doesn't produce then their AD will be looking for a job.

Fwiw though, I used to be hard on Monasch's case, but I've heard recently that he's more balanced then many of us believe. He doesn't buy Lavins bs hook line and sinker. I've heard there are things he really likes about his coach and some things that really frustrate him.

Offer him 4 years $12 million, with an option for a 5th. Everyone on Redmen.com would be on board with that.

I thought Lavin was a sure hit, which was why that same night that he was named officially named our head coach, I created this name.
I was telling everyone, we`re all ready back. Then Lavin, Dunlap and staff taking norms kids to the NCAA, I was saying imagine what he`ll do with his 4 and 5 star kids.
Well 3 years later and only 2 NIT appearances and going just 1-2 in them.

So hey, I say screw it, at this point I don`t give 2 blanks what SJU has to do, or whoever they bring. As long as they get to where we all believe in our hearts they belong. As long as it`s clean.

Even if it means bringing in Jim Calhoun, that`s how freaking obsessed I am for SJU to be back.
DO WHATEVER IT TAKES.

Yeah, I can`t stand him either.
But if he got us a championship, I think we would all celebrate, or am i wrong?

Why would you think Lavin was a "sure hit" when he was first named coach? Remember, he came with a huge "buyer beware" label from his previous tenure as a coach. Of course many fans chose to ignore that label. Some still refuse to see history repeating itself. I approached the signing with cautious optimism, hopeful that he had grown in his time away from coaching. The staff he assembled gave me more reason for optimism and the immediate splash he made on the recruiter trail started to give me hope that he was the right man for the job. I have since changed my tune.

Otis what are your thoughts on on his predecessor, Fr. Cahill?

Are you saying he could have been a worse coach at UCLA than he is here? Geez no wonder the Bruin fans hate him so much.

Two interesting snippets from your post. They are contradictory and, with Calhoun, you know what you're gonna get. For 15 years I've been reading on here what a slime bag Calhoun was as coach of Uconn. Now we want him as our coach and think he will make us a winner---without cheating? Really?
