Fire Monasch!

Lavin was the right hire at the time. We would have had to get lucky with a mid major coach who was capable of elevating the program and getting better players. Lavin pulled it off initially and I'm hoping he still can turn it around. I get the feeling he won't though. For him to be successful he has to get the best recruits of any team in the conference every year. Then he has to hire assistants like Dunlap who are experts in practice planning and have an offensive and defensive game plan.

There are 2 aspects to recruiting--getting good players --getting good players who can make it in college and stick. if we excuse Harkless and count Pelle most of recruits approved by AD have split

If Monasch were to fire Lavin right now, it would make a clear national statement that SJU is not a 2nd rate program and will not accept mediocrity, we will not accept anything less than an NCAA bid.

But as has been stated by people close to the program. No one in the administration has the BALLS to make the decisions that need to be made.

@TheoRabinowitz to pull the trigger on Lav right now

I am a little out of touch with academics but how long does a school the size of St. John's go with an interim president?

I don't know. Our country has gone without one for awhile, and look what Putin is doing in the interim.

I don't post much, but I do read the board quite frequently. I am retired in Tucson, Arizona and I ran into Coach Lute Olsen right after the Lavin hire and told him I was a SJU grad ('67) and was very upset we had been in BB purgatory for the past 10 years or so. I asked him what he thought of the hire and he said something to the effect, for what it is worth, good recruiter, can't coach a lick in important game situations.......

I would hire Jim Calhoun. He was on with Francesa and definitely sounded like he has the bug. He could give us 4-5 years and groom a replacement.

I'm dead serious btw.

Offer him 4 years $12 million, with an option for a 5th. Everyone on Redmen.com would be on board with that.

And bring Masiello on as his assistant.

Never liked Calhoun........but I am desparate to get somebody that can coach. I am on board.

Masiello could be a student manager :)

You would think that spending 7 years in the booth speaking to all the top coaches about strategy and game situations something would have stuck. I find it hard to believe he is the same coach now he was at UCLA. May not be the best or even a top level tactician but he has to be better right?

While the Jesuits at BC might consider it, I don't see the Vincentians agreeing to contract terms.

I supported the hire at the time. Like many things in life, it turned out badly. I knew we were getting a good recruiter & mediocre game coach. That said, I never realized what a disingenuous character he is. He insults the intelligence of smart people with his excuse laden, non sensical commentary time after time. I am still waiting for him to take personal responsibility for this debacle and express some intent to try and fix it. (Even if incapable)

All in all, I did support his hire, hoping he would have a competent strategist at his side who he would listen to. That has not proven true. However, his fraudulent, egocentric & self preserving nature is to me is the essence of someone incapable of leadership.

Well stated by The Honorable Paultzman.

Erin Andrews has been on the sidelines for years observing and talking to Saban, Spurrier, Stoops etc and I still wouldn't want her calling plays for my football team.

Here's question for everyone though. Do you think Calhoun would consider coming here? I saw yes.
