Find Me 11 Big East Wins

I got ridiculed for saying this during a game thread, I admit it was in jest. but my gf made an observation in November that he wears those jumpsuits to cover up the fact that he is overweight..spot on if you ask me

She sounds like a keeper.

"Lavin dresses the way he does because he's fat and he's vain. He's fat because he's been living too much of the good life - too much macaroni and gravy, too much braciole, too much chianti - and his age and his illness and his now sedentary lifestyle have caught up with him. But Lavin also has the incredible vanity of an airhead who became a celebrity at an early age and the incredible insecurity of an celebrity who failed publicly and spectacularly. He's embarrassed he's such a porker because he knows deep down that if he exercised some self control and spent as much time working out as he does doing his hair he wouldn't have man tits. He wears the sweat suit because his regular clothes don't fit comfortably and he wears the pinstripes to cover up the jiggles that would clearly be visible while he's jumping up and down on the sidelines.

I look at it this way: he's a clown and this is his clown suit. I find it very appropriate."

I think this comment is totally inappropriate.

But it's cleverly (and I must say, courageously!!) put in the mouth of a woman none of us know and who doesn't even post here... thus making it unseemly to react to the writer in the way this utter nonsense deserves. Well done, Fun! In so many ways you show your true colors!!

Cleverly and courageously putting things in a woman's mouth; that should be on Fun's headstone.

(1) We won't need 11 Big East wins to make the dance (9 will get that done, 8 if we beat Duke and don't lose to Creighton or Depaul at home)
-We have an excellent RPI that just got injected with steriods winning @ #13 Providence
-The Big East is the #1 conference in the country in the RPI and, perhaps more importantly, that is reflected in public opinion....6-7 bid league this year

(2) 11 wins is certainly still possible:

-Payback both Nova and Butler (don't ever get swept)
-Win 5/6 from Depaul, Creighton, and Marquette
-Beat SH at the Garden
-Split with G'town, Xavier
-Beat Providence at home

Thank you Marillac, I was about to say it.

We don't need 11. I think we can get in with 9 wins and a BET win, judging by rpi forecast last time I checked.

We won't beat Seton Hall at the Garden because we play them at Carnesecca.
Unless of course we beat them at the Garden in the Big East tournament. Now that would be sweet!

I actually wish that game was at the Garden. I think the atmosphere would be electric.

One huge road win and now the whole perception of the season changes. When Dom and Jordan play well we can beat anyone. 2 more winnable games before our showdown with Duke. Let's get to 3-3 in the Big east and go for our senior's signature win.

Hopefully this calms down the bridge jumpers and gets our fans back out to support the team when we get back home.

I count 8.

They would need to run the table in the BE tourney.
Problem is with the short rotation, our key guys will be dead tired come March.

Hopefully with the week off, the bench players got lots of practice.
Would be great to see tonight, one or two getting alot of minutes. I won't hold my breath though

Well the Euro kid gave us 14minutes, and played pretty well.
Now the next game Lavin can't go back to giving him under 5 minutes, keep giving him 10-15minutes. Joey also got 6minutes, next game he has to get atleast 6minutes also.

Need as many big men as possible.

I don't think Alibegovic is that bad. Hes big, has a shooting touch and knows where to be on the court. He's a little green and needs more seasoning, but we need both Alibegovic and Delarosa this season to give us some minutes in the post, otherwise we will never make it down the stretch.

Anyone that thinks he's bad is nuts. The kid is enormous and strong. He doesn't look comfortable yet, but that is more than expected from any freshman big man--let alone a foreign kid just getting used to the American game. He fouls waaaaaay too often for my liking, but that is something we can reasonably expect to get better with more time.

Not many kids that big can catch an over the shoulder pass like he did and convert it into a nice looking dunk at full speed on their first such attempt of the entire season.

For anyone who thinks we need 11 (well, 10 now) wins...

I agree on Amar. He may be slow footed, but has skills and seems to understand the game. In time, as you noted, he will be a nice player with size.

He has more size than Christian Jones who has no skills and doesn't understand the game. He comes from good basketball stock who grew up around a "skills" focused basketball environment in Europe which is something many Americans lack these days. We have an abundance of athletes who rely on their natural born talent wanting to make spectacular plays rather than smart plays. Jakarr Sampson comes to mind.

He has good genes too. Father was a solid Euro player. Good point on the spectacular v smart plays.

People said horrible things about the chances Larry Bird would have in the pros. Good size, can't jump a lick, not too strong, and is slow. That worked out pretty well though. Maybe that's where the comparison with Bird ends, but I think Amar could be a nice player for us. It's clear Lavin admires the European skillset of kids who come here knowing the game much better than American kids of the same age.

I agree that Amar could be a good contributor. Heck, he's contributing already.

But you guys sound like Kobe deriding American basketball and focusing on how skill development is so much better in Europe. There's a grain of truth to that, but it's also vastly overstated.
Europeans are rarely exposed to physical play or the level of competition you see at even the average high school level here.
Ball movement and shooting look pretty until you face an athletic defense that bumps you and pushes you off the position you want.

Samir found that out against Lincoln.

I actually disagree with that last part. Look at what Wisconsin, Gonzaga, and Creighton did to our defense the last two years. They were the ball movement and good shooting teams and we were the athletic defense. It usually didn't end well for us.

Also, look at the Spurs. Beating the more athletic Heat last year in the finals while playing with European stars and using good ball movement to win.

Not to call Europeans girls, BUT guys who follow women's basketball all end up saying essentially the same thing: Girls play the game the way it was meant to be played. They execute plays, move the ball, play defense. It's partly because of the more limited physical attributes compared to guys. European players are simply not the athletes that many American players are, and as a result do a lot of the same things - move the ball, pass well, are fundamentally sound, run a play well. As a result, many have found their way into the NBA and play quite well at that level without jumping through the roof. As Barkley says to those who criticize Euro players (which many NBA players do), "The game rewards many talents"
