“@Kieran_Lynch: "Kids that didn't get in are redshirting." Lavin. Elaborated that Lipscomb, Balamou redshirting. Jones up in the air. #sjubb”

Lipscomb?? Is 2014 recruiting that effed up?
Got back from the "game" and I use the word very liberally. This was a total waste of 40 minutes IMO. It appears Humboldt was missing its best players and we basically played a good high school-level team. Not a good game to prepare for a nationally ranked team. Karr was MIA again but then again, he had better competition in prep school.
Yes, Hoop can shoot the three and Gift scored around 24 points with the ball going inside a bit more. Hope it gets fed to Chris upon his return.
Mike Rice was at the game as was the Maven.
Small crowd to witness this embarrassing mismatch.
Sorry for the post here but some mod must have also been embarrassed by this game and locked the thread.
That is all one needs to know about how some felt after the buzzer.

Well, of the two exhibition games, I think we learned more from the SF game than the Humboldt one... still not sure why the game thread was locked though.

Damned if they do damned if they don't. This same team lost to Cal by 23 a few nights ago. They did what they were supposed to do. Took care of business. What were you wanting from this game? I'm confused. Just seems to me you find something negative in anything positive.

Walk ons can redshirt?

Seems like coach got their attention. You wonder if anything is gained out of blowout wins. For years Syracuse used to blow out teams like this and Johnnie fans would get jealous and then Big East games would begin and they'ed lose or be in a nail-biter and curiosity would take over regarding whether that schedule was worth it or not. Choose your own.

this roster is so loaded it is easy to see why. Balamou has not played a bad minute for us. I'd really like to see his development.

Glad I'm not alone in thinking that about Felix. I see Michael Porter like athleticism, without the bad attitude. Looked like he had a huge motor also. Redshirting is probably for the best. He needs more learning time in practice and floor time before he gets it.

Sure we learned more. We learned we needed to improve and play better ball at both ends, and we did that today. Regardless of the competition, we were crisper by far at both ends. Even our second team was. Need to learn to be the hammer, not the nail... Confidence is a key attribute. We learned humility in the first game. Overall, I think both games served their purpose. We entered the first with a false sense of confidence and played poorly. Today we were more business-like and got a feel for stepping on the gas. Friday we need to do both.

Lipscomb is a serious player...not a typical walkon. He is also the son of a very good coach and is the type of kid you want to keep around a program as long as possible. Walkons can have a very big impact on a program even if they never see the floor. I am very happy to hear these two and probably three guys will be redshirted.

I don't see him as a serious player, but his father does have a loaded team at Wheeler HS.

Who is number 40? He did not have his name on his jersey.

Ahhh I was hoping there maybe some package deal involved :)

I tried to defend him (Porter) at Alumni Hall and annoyed him enough to earn a bloody nose for my efforts. Elbow to the face. I wore it with pride. I really felt like he could jump over the backboard if he had felt like it.

I am not sure if you actually were at the game but the score is very misleading. The second half was mostly walk-ons and Hoop, Pointer and Marco. The first team----the team that will be tested big time on Friday gained zero from this game----zero! It is like Alabama preparing for a big SEC game by playing Fordham.
Bewteen the two games I have no idea of how good we are.
I am happy for our team and a win but this was not even close to competitive ball.

PS. Lavin also decided the player that needed to get on track the most.....Sampson, did not need any minutes in the 2nd half. Karr learned nothing from this game and it could bite us down the road.

Replacing 3 guys this year looks like it might be difficult. I can see Lavin pulling a Jamal White part 2 and giving Lipscomb, Marco's ship next year.

We probably didn't gain anything from the game, but then again the score isn't always indicative of what was or could be learned from the game.

You were ticked about the game from Saturday by saying it was too close, and now you're claiming they didn't gained anything from the game because it wasn't competitive ball. You can't have it both ways, '72.

Sampson sitting on the bench could also pay dividends. Sometimes, one has to sit and watch, in order to get back on track. He's played enough games, in which he has gained some form of experience. Not to mention, you felt tonight's game doesn't help, as the team didn't gain anything. So, Sampson wouldn't have anything to gain by playing tonight, right?

Just relax, and allow the season the play out, man. The season is 4 months long.... Not one game; two games; one week; one month; two months. 4 months.

Let's enjoy it!

After the first half I said nobody would be happy about the win because things were so bad unless we won by 50. Person I was with said no way that we would win by 50. Well we won by more than that by playing and maintaining the lead with Dom, Max, Marco and two walkons playing the last 8 minutes and people still aren't happy. Another day in the life of rooting for St. John's.

Hey Fordham is 9-0 this year :silly:

I don't know about this learned nothing stuff, but I will say that as a fan we have a long tradition of playing down to inferior competition in both good and bad years with both good and bad coaches. Cruising through a game and watching the players execute offense like it were practice might actually be beneficial but for my ulcer it was a nice break.

Fordham is 9-0, #6 in the FCS and has a win over an FBS team this season.
which will have more wins. Their football team or their basketball team
