Would like you to interview Brian Mahoney. Get his perspective on coaching with Louie and recruiting Felipe LopezI've had a few people ask me to get Jarvis. I haven't reached out but perhaps something for the offseason for sure.
Class2010, I'm much older than you and a little older than Fran. Back in the 60's and 70's when Fran and I were growing up the park for great ball was Foster Park and most especially if you were in the Flatbush area. A writer for Sorts Illustrated even wrote a book about it "Heaven is a Playground", made into a movie. Say that about Manhattan Beach I don't think so? By the 90's and later I have no idea what Manhattan Beach playground was like. It was kind of ritzy down there back in my day.Manhattan Beach had some good ball players great mix of folks. I remember seeing good games there as a kid in early 90s, when I lived in Sheepshead. I want to say I saw Jack Ryan play there as a kid and W4th when I was in my early 20s. Steph’s brothers were solid ball players on the Coney Island courts. Grady around 2000 was solid PSAL school. Not liking your tone
Definitely not the hood, always a nice neighborhood. I always heard Mully traveled the whole city. Some of these podcasters not giving him his due, I wonder why when discussing great nyc talent. Tillary Pk mentioned on the interview? Love the story’s of Earl the Goat, Pee wee Kirkland. My old man’s family was one of the first families in the Pinkhouses. My uncle went to Jefferson played football. Was friends with Tony Jackson’s sister. Had a tryout with the Indians. My mom grew up in Nostrand Houses. We moved before I got the chance to grace the halls of Lincoln.Class2010, I'm much older than you and a little older than Fran. Fran probably didn't live in Flatbush since he said in that article he went to High School at James Madison, which is in Midwood. Erasmus Hall is Flatbush's public high school.
Marine Park had BB courts, but if Mullin for looking for game he went to Foster Park, Bed-Sty, EastNY, Brownsville, Fort Green or the parks near Lincoln High School near Coney Island. Mullin actually traveled far and wide all over the City for good ball.
I got a kick out of the article and Fran talking like he was from the mean streets of Brooklyn. James Madison was Emily Post compared to Erasmus or Tilton high schools. And Manhattan Beach was not the 'hood, just sayin'.
All in all, I really enjoyed Dave's interview and the link to the BB Writers article was good too. Nothing against Fran.
You are correct BrookJersey. I went to James Madison from 1980 to 1984. It was good compared to those schools you mentioned.Class2010, I'm much older than you and a little older than Fran. As an undergrad at NYU I was friends with the late Stan McKenzie who played in the NBA for seven years after one year of Euroball. We stayed friends until geography intervened and I remember dropping him off at Manhattan Beach BB courts for elite games. This was the late 60's so I have no idea what came after as I lived in San Francisco bay area and Boston from 1969-1975.You are correct BrookJersey. I went to James Madison from 1980 to 1984.
