Extend Lavin - Yes or No?

No. Why do we have to get constant updates on where he is every day and who he is after. Should
have been doing recruiting for this fall last year.

I think he waits to see how the player's senior year shakes out before he offers and then only goes after the best prospects.

Most of the best prospects are long signed before their senior year starts.

Callipari only has so many scholarships to give. ;)

4 year extension added on to current contract. 1st year vests if we make the ncaa next year.

2nd yr vests if we land top 10 recruiting class for 2015

Any condition on extension of Mr. Lavin's contract should be related to wins, losses and qualifying for the NCAA.

Ranked recruiting classes are only relevant if they translate into results.

Well the 1st year vesting would be based on winning and with virtually most of our current team most likely leaving after next year I think quality recruits are of most importance the 2nd year. t least that's what my opinion is

You are both on target. Extension should be inventive based.

I am a supporter of Lavin but would not offer until ; the 2014 and 2015 recruiting classes have performed at a high level. Perhaps an assistant or two need to be re-evaluated prior

He needs the extension in order to be able to recruit. Otherwise he is a lame duck. They can always have a buy out in the extension that does not need to be made public. These coaches switch teams every other day

Lawmanfan......your lean is showing. I want to thank you for locking the Fire Lavin thread. It helped me to better understand the mission statement of this site.

No need to threaten me with revoking, banning, or whatever it is you do to those with my point of view. I will be sitting it out for awhile.

Looking forward to the repetitve Sir Dom and Phil Greene posts (which are apparently allowed)..........

Lawmanfan......your lean is showing. .

See this is where you dig your own grave and it's entirely your own fault

If you actually knew what you were talking about you'd realize Lawmanfan has been pretty much against Lavin since the day he was hired.

He just chooses to not write it every time he posts something

Wasn't the first to feel it but I've been disenchanted for 1.5 years. Really frustrated watching him coach. With that said if he lands Diallo and Briscoe I will not complain.

He has not earned an extension, and anyone who knows the game knows that he is a poor in-game coach. Even if he comes through with Briscoe and Diallo, they'll be put into the same non-existent offensive and defensive sets. Pull the band aid off now, we can do better. I don't need the Lavinwood flash and drama, I want to see our team perform up to their abilities; a group of athletes that play solid, hard-nosed, team oriented basketball.

On the surface, Mark Jackson, one of our iconic players, NBA Rookie of the year, arguably HOF STATS in Assists, etc. Successful NBA COACH

Mark would present excellent credentials for any Coaching job, NBA or College , in my opinion.

I wonder if Oregon State or anybody would hire Lavin, based on his St JOHN'S RESUME. I doubt it.. Would STEVE take the OS job, if offered? .I don't think it will be offered.

And, Oregon State waited a long time to dump Robinson.. I think they were waiting on final Obama CARE numbers. :)

Would Jackson make a good Coach here at his ALMA Mater? I would like to say yes but, I'm not sure.

I don't think Lavin has earned any extension until he makes his teams a NCAA qualifier and BE contender. He has been very mediocre in many respects, awful in others.

ESPN Insider has a list of a dozen coaches who need to deliver and Lavin is on the list.

As he should be. St. John's pays him a lot of money and the team has underachieved for 2 straight seasons. If I'm Gempesaw, I want to see (a) a top 3 finish in the Big East (b) a very strong 2015 recruiting class.

SJU caught between a rock and a hard place. Without an extension it will be tougher to recruit . You can be sure the other teams involved with Lavin's top targets have already told them he won't be back next year.

You can be sure that there are some recruiters who bash other schools/coaches when going after a kid. Sometimes, though by doing so, they diminish only themselves and their own program, and in doing so, turn off a kid and/or his parents. I was present when Jay Wright described his recruiting trip to Benin, Africa to recruit Mouphtaou Yarou. Wright was about to go into his home to pitch Villanova to the kid and his parents His uncle intercepted Wright at the door, and said, "If you mention one word about basketball, his parents will not be very interested in Mouphtaou attending your school. Talk to them about academics and what makes Villanova a great school. Jay, as good a communicator, and as legitimate a person as exists in college basketball, did just that, and landed the kid. Side note - In process he travelled over 24 hours back to the United States, and slept right through his annual commitment to be keynote speaker at the graduating seniors breakfast. He felt so badly about it, to make up for it, he asked if he could speak at commencement to those grads, which he did.
