Since both you and MJM brought it up - no, there is no connection between Jenkins and Darling. At least thus far, they are completely opposite players - the guy who tried to do too much versus the guy who may not be able to do enough. My criticism of one was mostly attitudinal; my concern about the other is whether he will be able to be productive at this level. And at the moment that's based on one scrimmage against a mid major, so it's a very small sample size and there is plenty of room for growth. Clearly your eye and mine led us to different (preliminary) leans - we will see how it goes from here and I certainly hope your eye proves to be better than mine.
I will be thrilled if Darling turns out to be a serviceable point guard playing against the likes of Demary. We are going to need that to be the case for the team to reach the sky high preseason expectations.
Darling played one exhibition game and you already think he’s being asked to do more than he’s capable of doing. Pitino said he didn’t play well, which means he thinks he can do much better. Plus, he recruited him onto the team. We need to give the guy a chance.I'm not going to keep going on this thread but if you think where I'm coming from on Darling is similar to where I was coming from on Jenkins then you are dead wrong. Darling is exactly the sort of player that I love - guys who give 100% and maximize their ability. The problem with this team is that it looks like he is going to be asked for a lot more than is reasonable to ask of him - which is not in any way a knock on him, it's a commentary on the roster construction.
Again I'm done commenting on this for now, but I felt the need to clarify that. There is definitely at least one and potentially two players on the roster for whom I might wind up having Jenkins-esque feelings - I'm not sure yet. But Darling ain't it.
You may recall that I am also "players develop" guy - who they are when they start is not always who they are in the end. OTOH there are some who have certain playing characteristics that don't change at al
I've watched too much college basketball to get exited about 1 exhibition game. Year after year I've seen players improve as the season progresses and they learn the coach's system and his requirements. Who doubts that these players won't improve with practice, tutoring and game experience.
Darling will be fine. I remember having big doubts about Ayo, but he won me over with his attitude and effort.
You’re reasonable. A lot of posters here aren’t. It’s one damn exhibition gameI've watched too much college basketball to get exited about 1 exhibition game. Or “point forward” will be most repeated term all season. As the biggest Ayo fan, I must point out that Ayo plays a much different role and at a position of strength. Darling is playing our weakest position and may be called on for north of 20 minutes a game at points.

Or “point forward” will be most repeated term all season.

A “lot” of posters, emphatically NO! Most of us innocently posted that Darling played better in the 2nd half after a terrible 1st.You’re reasonable. A lot of posters here aren’t. It’s one damn exhibition game
Did you read the game thread? I did. It’s my only basis for what happened in this game and I would have thought we lost by double digits. The site as a whole tends to attract to hyperbole, I’ve been guilty of it here and there, so hence the fact I wasn’t surprised by what I was reading.A “lot” of posters, emphatically NO! ONE poster took offense, called him a walk on, absolutely made up things about the game that never happened, tried to backtrack by writing about his long term “fears” concerning the player and was answered primarily by myself and one other poster.
I never once extrapolated anything from the exhibition further than what happened in the game and neither did anyone else except the one poster.
My apologies, obviously I interpreted your post very poorly.Did you read the game thread? I did. It’s my only basis for what happened in this game and I would have thought we lost by double digits. I get along with you well, I don’t know why you’d think I was even remotely thinking of you.
What an eventful day. I am glad you are fine.Late to.the party. Went to the game. I had gone 44 years in a row to alumni hall. The last 27 as full.season ticket holders. Then I missed 21 years as I moved to Florida. So Saturday was the first time on campus in a long time. As I got there the dedication event for the new building was letting out. I went to.the book store.looking for the sju/Yankee hat, and could not find one. Many, many sju hats. long lines as people were buying stuff. Then went to the carnesseca. Thanks to hardy I had first row upstairs. Lots of legroom. Dead center. Enjoyed the game. Great atmosphere. Seemed like 40 cheer leaders. 40 dancers. It was great being there. Numerous section 10 flashbacks. Left with seven minutes to go as game seemed in hand. Before I left I sat in one of the seats with the backing. Wow. I am 5 8 and it was terrible. Then picked up my wife from her 60 th high school reunion event. Then the fun began. I went to MT sinais emergency room and left the hospital four days later. I am fine and will be playing senior softball again in seven days. not sure if those seats caused the situation. You are free to imply to the school that it did. Something needs to be done about those wanna be seats.

Whiffed is a perjorative word. They did not sign a pg other than Darling. That is a fact. They chose not to. They could have outbid Florida etc. they could have brought in other candidates. They chose not to.You are right, we don’t have a clue as to why they were unable to bring on a high level pg and you have put forth many a plausable reason.
But the fact is we Struck out, did not succèed, whiffed, call it whatever you want , but we were not successful.
Thé reason why is not important.
So maybe not whiffed. And, I say this understanding the season hasn't started yet, so it is premature. But, would you use the word "botched" instead?Whiffed is a perjorative word. Rick didn't say "when"... Ian would be the next great PG... with his tutelage... maybe by the BET 2027...?lol..., it is equally mindboggling today as it was when Rick called Ian "the next great point guard".
