(EXHIBITION) Michigan (MSG), Sat., Oct. 25, 7p, Big Ten+

Of course Pitino won’t be criticized but how often do you run a press that continually ended in a dunk down the court.

Biggest pluses….. Zuby playing better in second half. Dylan Mitchell with great motor, Lefty off the bench, Dylan holding his own.

Biggest disappointments….Ian Jackson WTF is going on? Did Rick play to win or not? Sanon and Sellers foul issues, three point shooting????? Shooting in general.

Team has a long way to go and needs to get some sort of offense in place with special plays.
Team will be just fine; the usual negative nonsense.

Jackson will give us electric moments this season, but I am equally concerned we'll continue to see headscratchers a lot too. Rick will have a big task ahead getting him to to fit into this team ball.

No reason to be upset, I frankly prefer to lose so Rick & the team feel more motivated to clean things up. I’m very excited for the defensive potential of this team.

I really hope tonight was a shooting aberration & they shoot more.

Not convinced Darling is a 20 minute big east guy. Especially on defense. We desperately need a guy to step up as that primary ball handler

Disagree. Think Darling will be the least of our problems. Need consistency from the trio of Jackson, Sanon & Sellers to be elite.

Darling's D is ahead of Sellers' right now. Nobody else is going to step up as a primary ballhandler. It's Darling or bust on that front

I am not a “this was just an exhibition” guy. They kept score didn’t they?
Team played very hard, not very smart. Outside of Darling and Lefty’s hot minute, terrible guard play, don’t see the Jackson and Sellers hype at all, with Sanon not far behind, although WAY too early to draw any conclusions and I’m not. But fact, Darling is the ONLY point guard on this roster.
One play very late in the game was a flashing neon sign to me of the work this team has to do communicating on the defensive end. Darling was fighting through multiple picks to stay with Cadeau and finally got picked off in the lane by a big. Instead of Eijofor rolling to the big, he started out towards the 3 point line to cover a shooter leaving Darling on the big for an easy layup.
Front court played off the charts hard but really just as out of sync, no way Michigan should have gotten 943 uncontested layups. And no adjustment the whole game from the coaching staff. Not to mention, NO outside shooters, none, nada, other than Lefty’s magic minute.
Having vented, no reason to not think this team has a very real chance to be very good but frustrated for tonight because this game was lost much more than it was won IMO.

Cadeau busted Darling’s ass that entire overtime, and he was overwhelmed on screens. I really do not think he’s a least of our problems. But I do admit, if we had another point guard, I’d be a lot less critical. Which isn’t his fault

Michigan ran screen after screen at Darling because of the defense he was playing. And he was not busted or overwhelmed, he was picked by bigs. The vaunted guards sat most of the game because they were in foul trouble and very ineffective and Darling is the problem?

Yeah, ideally Darling would be our 15ish mpg backup.

But the Ian PG experiment ended pretty much before it started.

Sellers A) does not have any PG skills whatsoever either, B) is much served playing off the ball as a spot up shooter and C) was also horrific defensively today.

Sanon - not even close to a PG.

Lefty isn't a PG and is also better served playing strictly as a catch and shoot guy.

The announcing team did a great job tonight but one thing they didnt do was talk about who was in foul trouble. Had no idea Sellers and Sanon had multiple fouls and Sellers only played 8 minutes, so I cant really judge his D tonight. But Darling's D is an issue.

I give him credit for effort but as I said earlier in the thread, Michigan isolated him and Cadeau blew by him a bunch of times. And Cadeau isnt't exactly a speedster. He's gutsy and will take charges but I have a hard time thinking he's better than Sellers now or ever.

Sellers played 8 minutes tonight. Not sure how you can determine he is horrific defensively based on that sample size. I will give him a little more time to make that call.

LMF Grades

Mitchell: A
Zuby: A
Darling: B
Liotopoulos: B
Hopkins: C
Prey: D
Sellers: F
Sanon: F
Jackson: find someplace farther than Idaho. Arctic circle observation station maybe.

Overall: if Michigan did not throw the ball away 10 times on unforced errors it wouldn't have been close. But huge props to the team for grit and competitiveness. Michigan has great length, a tough PG, depth, shooters, and Lendeborg was obviously the best player on the court and it wasn't close.

Pitino had better figure out how to get something from his guards or he is going to spend the season trying to put 3 pegs into 2 holes.

Good to get these scrimmages out of the way and get a lot of practice in before Quinnipiac as a tune up and then see what we've learned going into the first big game.

I thought there was also a lot of good in this game. Mitchell was much better offensively than I expected. Zuby was great at the line. Hopkins is healthy. Darling showed he can compete. Lefty can shoot it. Prey was solid. Sonon had some nice moves early.

Not watching the game but I do find it funny that people killing our biggest recruit in an exhibition game, even asking “why is he in there?”
So criticizing coach is terrible killing 20 year old kids is ok?
Now will probably get banned for this but not sure Pitino mind games is 100% successful.
Not all kids respond the same way.
If you watched the game you wouldn't be wondering, you would have been nodding in agreement. Kid (who I never thought was our top recruit, maybe third at best) is completely lost.

You’re right, he’s not, he is a 30 minute guy on this team.

Or at least something. Would think that will come and it’s October. Hard to believe they were in it the way those guys shot - but then I do believe it because I saw 20 games like this last year.
