Early Bracketology...

I like what Pitino is doing. We should have a solid 8-9 man rotation next season. My realistic expectation is finishing 6th/7th in the Big East. Our roster is definitely improved, but I think most of the BE rosters have also improved. It could also take a little time to build some chemistry among the players.

Based on 2 most likely first to second team big east players and a bunch of good to above average talent I can see this team as a Bubble team to a sweet sixteen team. I lean toward the latter but that is the optimist in me.

And if this team is playing like a sweet sixteen team then I allow myself to tweak that later on. Very recent history proves teams can go far right away in the transfer portal era. So of course we can with a great coach to boot.

Cant wait to how this team develops and watch pitino in action for our johnnies!!

P.S. I really don't think we are a bubble team.

Edit: Went back to break this up into paragraphs even though they are just a few sentences lol.

Updated today is a poll prior to the NCAA Tournament? How is that?
It's a time stamp. It wasn't actually updated. It's also the AP poll and not a CBS-related poll.

We have too much depth not to challenge for a seat in the tourney. We have all those factors that were missing in the past. We have one of the best big men in the country as well as another legit big, lots and lots of shooters, an elite free throw shooting team, second leading scoring guard in the country last year and Rick Pitino.

That’s more than enough for me to like our chances. We also aren’t small and have extremely deep bench with varying levels of experience.

We have shooters and Dingle can take over a game gives us an Alpha Dog. My expectations are still to play on Friday night of BET. Maybe being that 5 seed at Barclays (if we are not hosting team) winning a game. With shooters you always have a shot at the second weekend. Slick Rick now has bring ‘em together!

Different times as well. The transfer portal can expedite progress nowadays. That wasn't the case at his previous collegiate stints. Not to mention, the Providence and Kentucky teams, respectively, were a wreck when he took over both programs. Providence finished 5th and went to the NIT in his first season in a very tough Big East conference. The Friars weren't gonna overtake the Johnnies, Syracuse, Georgetown, and Villanova.

Pitino's first Kentucky team had limited scholarships (of course, on probation) and finished with 10 wins in the SEC. They played four top 25 teams in OOC play.

His first Louisville team was coming off several years of poor-to-mediocre results as the late Denny Crum had ran outta steam. Two of Pitino's top 100 players were also freshmen on his initial Louisville team.

I'm not saying Pitino is gonna set the world on fire in his first year at St. John's, but those were different times and different circumstances.

“then again he might set the world on fire - would we be surprised if he did just that?
Nope”

A10 is usually the host at Barclays IIRC

What am i missing on Nova? Last year was a down year and what has Neptune done? In the way to early predictions they are a 7 seed. I don’t see it and don’t think they are any better than middle of pack.
I like the TJ Bamba pick up and they have Justin Moore playing another season, but yea idk there’s alot of question marks over there

Agree, Hart's a very good pickup as well. But Whitmore, Slater and Daniels are gone, Dixon and Moore are the only guys of note returning and their recruiting class is one unranked player. But if Moore is fully recovered by next season he's a problem.

If Jay Wright was coaching the team, I'd have them ahead of St. John's. I literally don't know how good Neptune is, which is why I have them in that other tier with Georgetown (talent is lagging), Butler (talent is lagging, coach may be past his prime), Providence (coach question mark).
